Crystar, Moltar, and friends are available in Heroclix format for pretty cheap. You can get Crystar and Moltar in Heroclix form for not very much and the sculpts are faithful to the comics. Crystar has clear plastic and Moltar looks fiery. They are from about 4 years ago or so - so just a fun thing to have, not vintage.

I had most of the Crystar figures. My Brother & I found them in the $1 bin @ the local drug store in 1985. They were a lot of fun & just the right size to play with star wars figures. I'd totally forgotten about them. Thanks JM. Great video.

Had Warbow. LOVED that dude. Wish I had gotten more of this line. I still would have stupidly sold them at the garage sale we had where I dumped all of my original vintage Star Wars and GI Joes, though. Those were my 2 main lines. Never did He Man, Transformers, or other big lines in the 80s.
@pauljoyner43383 жыл бұрын
Sorry Rus and I feel your pain. I did something similar with my Star Wars and GI Joe's also.
@bobbyarchaic96493 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Warbow was great. I used to play with him a lot. He'd be in whatever assemblage of figures I put together of Star Wars and G.I. Joe characters for years. He was actually pretty hard to find in a store even back when he was new. I had him at the top of my list of figures I would ask for a while before I lucked into spotting one at Children's Palace with my grandmother. He was really difficult to explain because I had only ever seen a picture of him and there was no other reference material from any comic or cartoon I could use to explain who or even what he was. I drew a rough sketch of him from memory. Plus I didn't really know what the packaging for him was and the Krystar toys were really uncommon anyway.

They did use "Weirdworld" in the latest re-re-re-re "Secret Wars" as a catch-all to save Marvel's crazy bronze age to 80s oddball properties (unique experiments, toy franchises still owned, short turn comic books) - the first Weirdworld arc a few years back had Crystar (in a form that doubtless inspired that Robot Chicken parody) and his friends. I guess better than IDW doing a pointless re-boot that erased all those decades of fond memories for "Meh" and with Rom/Micronauts tear jerkingly painful to try to read.

The catapults did not come with figures, and there was a battle pack that came with a articulated dragon rider “stalax. The green crystal warriors were Crystar captains. There was 2 “magma man” figures released with different weapons as well; one came with the whip the yellow magma dragon rider came with. Remco reused several weapons and pieces with other toy lines. The ladder, and winch that came with the castle were even released in different colors.

0:45 Correction: It was DC, not Marvel, that made the mini-comics that came with the Masters of the Universe toys in the line's second year in 1982, and made full-sized comics of MotU before Marvel did. Marvel didn't pick up the license for Masters of the Universe until 1986, well into the later years of the toy line.

With all do respect to The Junkman; I'd like to make 1 quick correction: Feldspar ( the half lava/fire half crystal guy) was NOT " order of Chaos " .....he was Neutral. Being Brimstone legs n waist and Crystal torso. He was both, tried to bring about balance. Fascinating toy line! When I was about 9-10 I remember seeing these at Fred Myers's on clearance. With like 8 accessories each and $2.99 or whatever at da time, mom bought what was left,- Crystar, Zard, green crystal dude, wizard dude. My buddy gave me Feldspar later when line died. I would play these vs Go-Bots or my Misc army line: in humanoids, knock off GI bots & TF , Starriors, etc etc. Starriors was bad ass. Dead eye remote control shoots discs, big snake temple that drives and opens up to base...but without corny jail and trap doors n stuff.

The clear action figures were really cool. Not “micronauts” cool, but still cool. I never read the comic or knew the story, but hearing your synopsis, it sounds like a ripoff of Michael Moorcock’s “Elric” saga for kids.
@leemiller71653 жыл бұрын
The clear figures were cool. Problem was only Crystar and Warbow were clear, Feldspar was only half clear. So out a line of 7 figures, only 2 were all in on the gimmick. Combine that with the ass backwards put the toys out first and it was doomed to fail. If you had the toys when they first came out you had to imagine your own backstory, rather than play based on an established backstory. The established backstory on other toys act as a jumping off point that established who were the heroes and who were the bad guys (more than just because it said so on the card). Imagine if they had done that with Star Wars and you friend insisted that C-3PO was a bad ass terminator style robot. Or Darth Vader was a good guy. You would’ve gotten frustrated and not wanted to play with your weirdo friend that had it all backwards.
