@farmerboy9167 жыл бұрын
SgtKOnyx I mean they won't be great, but they could potentially be decent. If you switched to something a bit tougher like brass and lengthened the skirt a little, used a pretty strong modern powder (keeping in mind that even the first single base powder was 3 times more powerful than black powder), then laquored the back instead of cork, you could have a marginally useful caseless cartridge I suppose. Still have to deal with extraction, but I think that'd be the lease of the issues
@SgtKOnyx7 жыл бұрын
farmerboy916 It kinda just turns into a short, weak version of whatever caliber it is. Since modern ammo could use the same powder after all. I admit it'd be a cool novelty, just not a practical choice overall.
@farmerboy9167 жыл бұрын
SgtKOnyx Some people are obsessed with caseless, so it'd appeal to them at least. I'm just wondering if you could reasonably make it have the same case volume/ length as whatever it's supposed to be mimic-ing, essentially just making it pseudo caseless ammo. On the other hand most cartridges are not as high pressure and as hot as they could reasonably be, having a lot of filler or lower power powder, so you could presumably upload a great many without the same case capacity.

I love when the first attempt at something is a terrible abject failure but it leads to an overwhelming success. The first Colt revolvers are another good example. The Patterson worked great on paper and it worked fine in real life provided you didn't shoot it much, carry it much, let it get dirty or and we're sure to handle it delicately. The Walker revolvers were ok as long as they didn't explode. The later revolvers though, were incredibly reliable and successful.

@@grimtv3218 I don't see why, the Henry rifle uses almost the exact same system and reproductions are very popular nowadays.

Great in depth video. Especially liked the diagram and explanation of the "rocket' ball. After the the introduction of rimfire cartridges, were any Henry pistols made(either prototypes or commercial) or were only long arms made?
@ForgottenWeapons7 жыл бұрын
The Henry was only made as a rifle.

Hi Ian, you are really a specialist! best gun reviewer alive! its so interesting to watch your stuff. everytime you bring in something totally obscure, or something commercial but in any kind production version. you are impressive! btw the rainbow colors in the korth handgun are from flame / point hardning the slide.

$10,000 in 1860 is about $290,000 today, and $40,000 would be about $1,000,000+ today. For anyone wondering.

I love lever action guns. I think it stemmed from the video games I played growing up. History Channel's Civil War- Henry rifle and Sharps Gun- Volcanic Battlefield 1- 1895 Winchester My top favorite guns. I own a Henry, and have an immediate family member who has an 1895 Winchester.

Hard to say how much the rocketball is at fault, assuming the suicide tale is true. It's actually surprising how many attempted suicides don't work out by firearm. My dad used to know a guy who tried to kill himself with a shotgun, just ended up turning himself into a vegetable instead. Shit's whack. That being said, that PROBABLY still implies that the rocket ball was anything but a showstopper in power.

Friction, the bullet is slightly larger than the lands in the barrel. That's is why Ian said the size of the rounds were very specific.
