I love your style of palette knife painting and I try to watch your videos to learn from you, but I find it frustrating to watch them, since I don't have a visual reference of what you are painting, in order to understand the process. I am an older person, retired, who has been fascinated by painting since I was a child, but due to the poverty of my family, I was never able to take any kind of art classes. I like being able to teach others the few things that I know how to do, I believe that this should be the mission of every human being, who acquires some skill, if not, then what is our mission in life? Show others the results of what I am capable of doing, more than an achievement it seems, more a pretense! I learned that every creative process has a few steps to follow and the first is to have an idea of ​​what you want to achieve, although along the way it sometimes changes, but having that initial idea to guide us is essential! Thanks James. It's a liner brush, either homemade or a cheap one store bought. Synthetic bristle ( taklon ) and about size 1 to size 4 is usable.

Thanks Sally, that is a homemade liner brush using an old handle with a hole drilled in and glued in synthetic bristle from a larger brush.

What do you use by the way to clean your knives? do you use some kind of paint thinner or something else entirely? I've ordered knives, paint and paper but not sure what else I need to get started, any advice? Thanks in advance and once again, love your paintings!

Thanks. I use a bit of turpentine to clean out the brush, then again with soap. The knives you just wipe clean, nothing is needed there. I paint on canvas so you may need either canvas boards to keep the cost down, or you can prepare Masonite boards to use ( you need to seal them properly before you paint on them)

That's a homemade liner brush - old handle cut off, drilled a hole, took some synthetic bristle from a large flat brush and glued it in. Any cheap liner brush - size 1 to size 4 will do the trick.

It's oil paint on top of a stretched canvas which is pre-primed. I then coat that canvas with grey acrylic paint. Once dry I start my work.
