Dave - love your videos - I keep each of them as reference. Can you recommend a good Form 990 workshop /seminar?
@NonprofitTaxHelp6 жыл бұрын
Thank you Mary. Good workshops on 990's are few and far between. Usually the major CPE providers offer a 990 course. Here's one: www.aicpastore.com/Tax/Business/PRDOVR~PC-181450/PC-181450.jsp and here's another resource: www.aicpa.org/interestareas/notforprofit/resources/taxcompliance.html The course listed first is taught by two of the most knowledgeable nonprofit professionals in the country. I don't know how the info is presented, but they really know their stuff.

Hello Dave - what tax software do you use? I use Drake and there is no place anywhere on the software to check the box on page 2 Form 990EZ Part III Statement. I am printing a paper return to send to IRS so I will manually check the box myself.

@@marykcoughlin3627 You're right about Drake's 990-EZ software. I tried Drake for 2015--the price was right--and I tried really hard to like it, but it was full of bugs. I was able to get them to fix one of the bugs, and I notified them about the problem with the checkbox for Part III. So they've known about it since early 2016 at least. I really wanted to do business with a company that hired All-American and was family-owned, but I had to go back to Intuit's Proseries desktop software. I use their pay-per-return option. It's about $350 per year for a license, plus $55 per business return filed or $30-something for individual returns. Intuit also has a cloud software, and it does work well, but it is too clunky. Hard to find where to enter things so it takes too long to do a basic 990-EZ. Regarding the 990-EZ checkbox, I just did the same as you are doing--I checked it by hand before mailing. That was an issue for me because I normally e-file all my returns.

@@NonprofitTaxHelp thanks Dave - not good. I'm going to call Drake Monday and ask if there has been any movement about this problem. I really like Drake and I really don't want to switch software products. The one I'm working on will be a paper return so I can easily check the box.

Thanks for all the great information. You have a clear way of explaining. If a government contract is received for one program, would the contract amount be listed as the program expense?
@NonprofitTaxHelp5 жыл бұрын
The portion of the contract that was spent on that program would be included in program expenses for that program, yes. If any portion of the contract funds were spend on administrative or management expenses, those portions would not be included as program expenses, of course. Sometimes those contracts allow for some admin expenses, sometimes not.
