@aavak regarding the crushing rock before dumping - gravel doesn't hold it's shape as well (anecdotal) and unless you're hard-up for slag which... you won't be, it's only real use is part of late-game filter media

On YSNP map I've been crushing incidental rock from mining iron and copper deposits to gravel to sand. When you make concrete locally so far from the beach, this seems cheaper than digging and delivering that sand.

30:31 It is exactly as you say, Aavak. When you set a fluid storage to "keep full", it forbids truck export (even if that switch is set to on). And refueling is a form of export, so they won't refuel. This makes setting up a "no tech refueling station" so fiddly that honestly it's easier to accept the inefficiency until researching the actual fuel station. You could chain two fluid storages, one with keep full and the second one with allowed export. But this opens a possibility of re-exporting that diesel back to a diesel generator or something else that's requesting diesel.

Turning rocks to gravel to sand was handy for me to not have to mess with digging sand, I always need more than what i accidentally dig up but never so much to make a dedicated sand mine, also being able to allow sand dumping too keep trucks from idling full of accidental sand in my other mines until i needed it.

@39:50 It also requires forethought because much like Rimworld hydroponics trays, it looks like we're playing swastika roulette with that method. =)

Oof, you've a keen eye. Thankfully I rarely see swastikas unless they actually are swastikas, I wonder what that says about me. At any rate, at worst, this is some sort of memeish distorted jpeg of one, so I think we're safe ;)

Actually rock and slag have almost the same amount of stability, in terms of dumping material. I decided to dump slag on the left side of my dock, and the rock on the right. The two coastlines are nearly identical, except for the color. Slag seems to slightly flow out a bit more, but its barely noticeable. Dirt is much softer and has to spill out over a larger area, but it seems like slag works fine for making sharper edges... it just looks ugly when you mix it with rock. I HAVE to dump them separately now, it looks so much better that way.
@Dunkurtin
@Dunkurtin 2 жыл бұрын
Slag spreads 1 tile every layer. Rock spreads 4/5ths. So every 5 layers slag spreads an extra tile than rock. Doesn't seem like much but adds up when going further into the ocean and filling -20 levels.
@Dunkurtin
@Dunkurtin 2 жыл бұрын
Crushed slag and gravel just spread further when dumped, so could maybe use for more controlled slopes. Less spread than waste, dirt and sand still.

Ow. I was enjoying that, but had to stop watching due to the lightning flashes. Is there an option to turn that off? It makes no sense: photosensitivity is a well-known thing and games routinely include warnings about it. Yet developers continually put in time and effort to _add_ completely unnecessary flash effects to otherwise enjoyable games. Nobody will stop playing a game because "it doesn't have lightning", but people will stop because it does. Why do they do it?

If the game puts you in some state of hypnosis to always find another task to handle, I have to say, simply watching said game also has an effect of the sort. Dare I say, specially with your voice and play style in general.

Yeah I've restarted a few times, and managed to do this each time... I'm not that bright. I've kind of settled on using gravel for a little bit, before switching to slag, as being the best way to do my first concrete. Then much much later you can turn gravel into sand I believe, which could be handy in a very long game on a low sand map.

When you mind in crater (in previous series) there was a lot of rock, so than maybe it is good to use some rock to make cement? (I do not have this famous game, it is quite expensive for me, yet)

You should pipe fuel to your dock. Build a Petrol station and assign a truck to it. Build a new Settlement for all the workers your going to need. I was unaware you could set priority on the recipe and process two inputs, so thanks for pointing that out.

8:55 Slag and Rock are both low-spread landfill, according to the experiment that that guy on the Steam forums did. As for crushing Rock to use in Concrete, it’s a nice backup to have if you randomly find yourself low on Slag, e.g. when you upgrade to more efficient Metal/Glas Smelting in the late mid game. Also, you’ll specifically need to crush some Rock into Gravel for one particular late mid game product. Finally, should you find yourself short of Sand, you can crush Rock into Gravel and then crush the Gravel once more to get Sand.

In fact, you dont need ramp for pipes :). You can just excavate 1 layer, place pipe and then flatten back ;)
@tr4l1975
@tr4l1975 2 жыл бұрын
Does that get undone though when you upgrade or attach more pipe ?
@gismoshow
@gismoshow 2 жыл бұрын
@@tr4l1975 you can excavate that later for connect another pipes. With more complex piping (what I have for my refinery) may cause some problems with more depth, cuz it try to change pillars. So for complex setup is good to have good planning and at the end use for example balancer as external connection. I didn't try upgrade underground pipe, cuz already have tier 2 pipes there (but you are still able to select that pipe on part which are above ground).
@Aavak
@Aavak 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, basic pipes and connections are possible with underground, I don't know about balancers though. At a guess, I'd say that because balancers are a building, they probably can't be buried.
@gismoshow
@gismoshow 2 жыл бұрын
@@Aavak balancer have to be above ground :) I'm use them as save measures cuz that occasional ground collapse after extending single long pipe (which have pillars while building underground part). So each block of some complex structure are ended with balancer. I had nice clean refinery and when I connected to old pipes it collapsed fast :D, with balancers it never happened again :)

Storages don't auto disable export like production buildings. They will always allow import/export until you explicitly change it or set keep full/empty. Also, I like using both rock and slag for concrete. If you have two loose storages feeding the same u belt, AND the junction is right next to one of the loose storages, it will prioritize that storage. Feed that belt into a crusher, then from thr crusher to the mixers with a single belt. The mixers don't care about that mixed belt. In that way you always use Slag first, but then use rock when slag is low.
