In soccer, the 'Rest Attack' or 'Counter-Attack" is essential for any team's success involving teams to quickly and directly counter the opposition after gaining or losing possession of the ball. Players initiating the attack play a pivotal role, needing speed, skill, awareness, and tactical understanding to capitalize on opportunities and create devastating scoring chances. An effective 'Rest Attack', can turn the game around and prove to be a game-changing strategy for a team's success.
This training activity aims to improve a team's ability to exploit spaces in transition and their ability ti quickly counterattack and create more goal-scoring opportunities.

In the graphic, it shows both the outside backs and the outside forwards in the same vertical channels but during the session replay it shows them staggered. In the session replay it allows the forwards to always be in the half space and the outside backs to always be in the wide spaces which allows the coach to play to either team without any need for stoppages to adjust players.

Thanks for watching. Yes, both setups are achievable in the activity depending on how much control you want with the transitions. Having them in the same channels we found is an excellent way to start to introduce the activity but both setups work for sure!

How would you set up if it were to be a 5-4-1 diamond midfield versus a 4-3-3 ? With the team being in the 5-4-1 as the team to focus on the counter attack

Not sure how it would work but I would try maybe a 1-4-1 setup for the central players with the team in a 5-4-1. The 4 being in your diamond shape. Then manage the width and depth of the wide players how you may envision to create more of the transition you may want. I’d think you wouldn’t have to change the wide players much. Interested in what you come up with or if this works for you.

Thank you very much. I wanna try it tomorrow. Just one thing to discuss. I feel the position of Wingers and FBs not really realistic. Maybe defending team should have their wingers on center line.

Feel free to adjust. Lots of flexibility with this as you’ll hopefully see. Let us know how it goes!
