Great video! In my time amateur racing and talking to officials who had worked races with the Andretti’s, some did not have a very high opinion of their behavior behind the wheel from a safety perspective. I don’t have first hand knowledge to judge, but to me at least interview wise, Mario always comes across as being both very intelligent and honest in his answers. Qualities that have become ever less important over recent decades with all the focus shifting to marketing and regulation politics in F1.

Heute noch am Leben der Mario obwohl er Autos von Chapman fuhr. Die wirkliche Leistung. Vielleicht, weil der Lotus so überlegen war, dass er nicht ans Limit gehen musste.

@@wolfgangscholz6666 das ist keine Leistung sondern Chapman hat das aus Gewichtsersparnis gemacht wie z B. beim Lotus von Rindt...der 1970 im Training auch Nicht am Limit gefahren wurde und trotzdem brach die Bremswelle...was ich damit sagen will : durch die Stallorder Andretti/Peterson wurde er auch durch Andretti nie am Limit gefahren...im Gegenteil Peterson ist hinter Andretti immer mit 3/4 Gas gefahren um Lauda fernzuhalten und seinen Team"Kollegen" Nicht zu kompromentieren...so war die Abmachung in 1978

If Ronnie and Mario would have competed on equal terms, Ronnie would have been the world champion in 1978. He was so much better than Mario, but he was treated unfair by the team and Colin Chapman.

Vielleicht war Mario Andetti der Fahrer, der am besten einschätzen konnte, was es bedeudete, in ein von Colin Chapman konstruiertes Auto zu steigen. Sehr guter Kanal. Nachtrag: Der Lotus 72, in dem Jochen Rindt 1970 in Monza tödlich verunglückte, war eine Konstruktion von Colin Chapman und Maurice Philippe. Heinz Prüller hat in einem Interview einmal bestätigt, dass Philippe nie über den Tod von Rindt hinweggekommen ist. 1978 verließ er Lotus uns wechselte zu March. Im juni 1989 nahm er sich das Leben. Man hat darüber nie mehr gesprochen oder geschrieben.

@@RicoPuerto Soweit ich den Unfallhergang verstanden habe, ist beim Anbremsen auf die Parabolica die rechte der beiden vorderen Bremswellen gebrochen, womit der Wagen ganz plötzlich nach links in die begrenzende Leitplanke fuhr. Mir ist jetzt nicht klar, weshalb ein montierter Frontflügel da Abhilfe geleistet hätte.

Die Leitplanken in Monza waren genauso Mitschuld: Sie waren nur einreihig und für den keilförmigen Lotus 72 völlig ungeeignet!!!!

Formel 1: 90% ist das Auto und nur 10% der Fahrer, dass ist auch heute noch so, Ausnahme Perez/Redbull!

Why ausnahme? Perez doesn't get what Max gets, not even close. F1 definitely should have only 1 car teams. This second driver joke must end. What AJ Foyt wrote in his book about the F1. He didn't want that kind of crap and never raced in F1, but won everything.

If Chapman and Andretti did not play clean with Peterson, both paid the price. Neither of then ever won a GP again and sank in the insignificance. Besides, one must underline that at that point of time Lotus was the most successful team in F1 after Ferrari. They experienced a revival in the midth 80s with de Angelis and Senna, but Chapman was no longer manager of the team.

Eppure dopo la vittoria di Peterson la sua ultima in Austria Chapman si dimostrò molto felice con Ronnie. Sembrava tornato l amore come del 73. È successo qualcosa nel gp successivo in Olanda. Sembra che Peterson in quel fine settimana firmò con McLaren per la stagione successiva e Chapman non la prese bene. Peterson ebbe la conferma che Andretti sarebbe rimasto in Lotus anche nel 79.

Nach Petersons Unfall in Monza 1978 gewann Andretti nie wieder einen Grand Prix. Zufall?

There are people who prefers to believe in chance because they just cannot live with the thought that they must pay for bad actions. If Chapman and Andretti did not play clean with Peterson, both paid the price. Neither of then ever won a F1 GP again and sank in the insignificance. Besides, one must underline that at that point of time Lotus was the most successful team in F1 after Ferrari. They experienced a revival in the midth 80s with de Angelis and Senna, but Chapman was no longer manager of the team. By the way, you just have to inquire in the case Regazzoni/Frank Williams.😔
