I worked for Rick on these fires. I am a contract Wildland Firefighter from Oregon. We brought our own water down, just for everyone’s information. I’d be happy to answer any questions if anyone has any. As an added note, Mr Caruso came and shook all of our hands afterwords. Well over 100 guys there, and he took the time to come and talk to everyone.

Thank you, you firefighters are the heroes, I can't imagine your level of frustration at being politically inhibited from doing your best, because of the lack of water resources, and equipment.

Yeah, fire trucks have water tanks and also water tenders come too, that's been lost in this thread. Also, the Stone Canyon Reservoir serves the Palisades with 3.4 billion gallons of water and was full and functional. The copters were pulling water from there and Encino Reservoir.

Hey! I live on the east coast, so i have zero knowledge about wild fires. But Did you see anything in person that wasn't done but could have been done to help stop these fires even a little bit? Obviously we've heard and seen everything from the news. Just curious if someone on the ground saw some things that aren't being talked about. And I guess by things I mean things that were or weren't done. And much respect and thanks for what you do!

I've met Rick Caruso in the past... someone who is a very standup guy who wants to make a difference and has the ability to do so. He needs to be either mayor of LA or governor of California.

I was a arson investigator for over 15 years in LA County. Fire bugs/ arsonists are mentally ill, they have this uncontrollable urge to set fires. When the winds start and the humidity drops these people come out and it’s been my experience that they start setting fires across the county. Arsonists are hard to catch, they’re not stupid, they’re very cagey however during my time I’ve had the good fortune to catch and prosecute a number of fire setters. Now it appears that the homeless are setting fires and there’s no accountability. The palisades is a wake up call for bad management and bad policy.

My parents live in the Bay Area and they think Newsom is great. They only listen to certain news stations and they are in a retirement bubble. Their house is paid off, they don't have to deal with kids being in public school and all the issues with that, don't pay income taxes and their property taxes are based on the original purchase price of their house from 1976. They don't understand why anyone would vote different but they are not affected by current day issues. They just putter around their house, complain and talk to the TV like it was a person and never get out much.

The Palisades Reservoir has a 117-million-gallon capacity. The reservoir had been empty for over a year for repairs to be made to the cover? Which was not a necessity. The LA Times tried to spin that there was 56 million gallons of water available, but Palisades hydrants went dry after the firefighting started. 🧐Competent management also means having effective evacuation preparedness for citizenry. 1st, the evac notices were not consistent across the entire city during these raging fires. Not even facility drills or head counts were up to par in these rushed departures. Thank God there was rescue footage of a hard of hearing 90+yo woman abandoned in an Eaton Assisted Living Home. 🚑There were cases where emergency vehicles did not arrive in Palisades to assist disabled residents who were unable to leave these burning areas on their own. Why wasn't there traffic escape plans & drills done by law enforcement to handle such a dire emergency situation!? Close down & divert regular traffic to create open lines from these fire areas? There was no reason LAPD couldn't divert or control traffic to eliminate that evac blockage. They could've opened up additional lanes & routes to get these residents out fast & safely, but they did not. Absolutely criminal that some residents had to vacate vehicles bcos there wasn't a clear & open exit route. Serious shades of shameful Maui wildfires perpetuated on mainland shores. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)

???? That aqueduct never went DRY. The Van Norman dam was out of commission because of the 1971 earthquake. We still get 25% of our water from the SWP through the central valley. The pipes went underground. What "controlled burns". Grass is needed to control flooding. BTW, I'm born there mid-Century.

@@scottw4336 The **Van Norman Dams** (also known as the **San Fernando Dams**) were closed down due to damage sustained during the **1971 San Fernando Earthquake**. The earthquake caused significant structural damage to both the Upper and Lower Van Norman Dams, leading to the evacuation of around **80,000 people** from the San Fernando Valley. The dams were subsequently decommissioned due to their inherent instability and the risk they posed to the heavily populated areas below them.

I call BS! I grew up in west Texas - hotter/dryer/etc. climates. Firefighters never have an issue fighting fires in the Franklin Mtns, The City or County. It’s a resource and numbers game, nothing else in a city like LA.
@charmichealsueflipflop213 сағат бұрын
the winds were 100mph who can fly in that
@rickcartagena84102 сағат бұрын
@ Obviously, wind is always an issue. But, air support should only be engaged when the caca really hits the fan - I seldom recall The State of Texas or US Army sending planes to fight fires in west Texas. Southern NM & west TX experience winds in the 30-65 MPH range, sometimes higher, in the mountain cities & ranges - from February to April every year. The winds so strong, they’ll turn an in-field fly into a 360 ft home run on baseball fields oriented west to east. The fire departments put fires out on the mountains, just as easily as the valley’s without air support. BIG FIRES!

The failure to replace the water reservoir cover has resulted in a staggering year-long delay, which could arguably be deemed criminal neglect rather than mere incompetence. Currently, the estimated damages associated with this negligence are projected to be around 350 billion dollars.

Remember back in Nov , 2023 when Newsom said arson was cause of big fire that closed Los Angeles freeway. When the fire erupted in two storage lots under Interstate 10 where construction materials combusted quickly and the fire grew. It left many columns charred and chipped and the deck guardrails twisted. Well, I wonder if Officials ever found and held anybody accountable for that.

Fire truck fleet 100 trucks: $100 million Rebuild LA: $250 billion Let's have some common sense here. Have an emergency system that could supply the fire hydrants with sea water as an option to have in case the resevoirs run out. Then just buy new fire trucks if the situation is so bad that you have to use it.

Living in socal, for the past 20 years. I've been through, and seen dome insane policies. Don't know how they pass, most people i know voted against them, and the people who implement them. Example, supposedly, we're in draught conditions. Cities pass ordinances mandating desert landscaping. Reducing water consumption. Not washing your cars at home, etc. What was the net result? Water districts raise rates, because of the reduction in consumption. Can't make this stuff up.

The Rich and powerful Malibu residents have always battled Cal Fire in vegetation clearance and control burns. They never wanted it in their backyard! Look it up!
@frank3210-s3j2 сағат бұрын
That’s the thing. It’s easy in hindsight to say we should’ve done X Y Z. But there would’ve been pushback. “You’re making the scenery ugly.” And even bulldozers can create new fires. It happened in OC last year.
@harrytraction138016 минут бұрын
@ that is incorrect so ugly dead brush is better to keep than proper clearance and proper control burns so we don’t lose our homes? What planet are you on?
@frank3210-s3j2 минут бұрын
@@harrytraction1380 There are a few stories online about residents resisting the brush clearing mandates around their homes and even risking fines a year ago. That’s the tough thing about preventative brush cleaning. Not everyone will do it. And it can be expensive. Around $10,000 an acre is the quote I’ve seen a few times. I’ve seen brush cleaning goats on trails a few times. We might need to expand that effort.

This is not fire season, this is winter. A saw a report where a fireman being interviewed said that many of the homes in that area had fire suppression sprinklers installed. He went on to say that once the house burned the water was free to run and that could be the hydrants lost water pressure. It is worth looking into, cause that seems to explain a lot. I bet many of those people owned EV'S I wonder if the media would be honest and tell the world that an EV charging started the fire that burned down all those homes?
