My mom worked for USPS for almost 38 yrs before retiring due to COVID. She actually drove the actual mail jeep for about 7 years before transferring into a clerk position, so she never drove the LLV. It was shortly after she became a clerk that those started showing up. I can tell you, everything you say about the mailcat, she can counter it with stories about the mail jeep. She despised it so much, that she won't even consider vehicles from the Jeep company who had nothing to do with the mail jeep, as safe. Those things were so top-heavy once loaded, that you couldn't take a turn faster than 3- 5 mph, otherwise they'd tip over. Absolutely regards anything with the word "jeep" to be an absolute POS and anyone who drives in them of their own free will to be crazy.

Makes me wonder if they saw him beforehand and actually waited for him to move on to the next house before doing their thing.... Some people have violent beefs with other people... but at the same time arent psychos who will just open fire on everybody in range. Also, I'm betting shooting a mailman is on par with shooting an FBI agent... a postal worker is a federal employee.

I used to catalogue all the LLVs at my station capable of driving on the highway because my route's most efficient path from and to the office takes the highway. Some of them have kick. Some of them.

10:00 Another distinction on the monopoly issue is that private carriers like Fed-Ex/UPS/DHL are prohibited from using the mailboxes for their deliveries - only USPS can use mailboxes.

Yeah, I'm going to start leaving small gifts for my mail carriers. They have the trucks, but have to get out and walk the neighborhoods because 99.9% of the houses where I live have the mailboxes mounted on the wall outside the front door, and the weather here is like long frequency bipolar swings, from near 100 degrees above 0, to -65. My house was built in 1920, and most of the houses around me were about the same time or much, much earlier, so there are very few mailboxes that are curbside. So, because the vast majority of homes were built pre-1950, even new construction homes aren't required to have a curbside mailbox, because it won't make a bit of difference to the mail carriers if they are - they're still on foot.

My 2nd cousin worked in the little post office in my little home town. They didn't have an LLV. I'm assuming because the amount of mail for my little home town of 500ish people didn't warrant a whole truck. So I assume the carriers were allowed to use personal vehicles, presumably being reimbursed in some form or fashion. I make this assumption because they always had the non-permanent magnetic ''mail'' sign they had on the roof of their car, like a pizza hut delivery car. That being said, if I'm not just imagining things, when the carriers were buying a new personal vehicle, they specifically looked for something that had a middle seat in the front, or really anything that didn't have a center console or shift stick, specifically so that could sit in the middle, use the gas and break with their left foot, steer and shift with their left hand, all so they could use either window to put letters in boxes, rather than make multiple trips and only use the driver side window to put letters in boxes. And as a very young child, I knew this shouldn't be technically legal to drive like this, so I assumed their vehicles were modified with a steering wheel and gas pedals all in the center of the front seat.

@matthewhawthorne8411 I wouldn't. Politicians for specifically the U.S. never had a problem understanding their power was contingent on the nation not falling. At least in the past, all parties were on the same page when attacked. Today, many genuinely don't understand and its made them far more dangerous. I think allot truly believe they have some way out that likely wont work as history shows for fleeing fools of fallen nations.

In defense of making the USPS a legal monopoly, there is some legitimate benefit for consumers in the long term. When you are the only business around providing a specific product/service, that pretty much eliminates any need for a marketing department, which have quite the established record for being just as, if not more, expensive as normal operating costs. Without that around, that leaves a lot of money that can then go towards higher pay, lower costs per item, and all of the other stuff that USPS used to offer. Of course, I say "used to," because while such an arrangement usually does work this way in the beginning, it typically does not take long before it all starts declining, if not plummeting, and this is pretty much always due to newer and newer waves of "leadership" deciding that more and more should go to themselves rather than the people who actually run sh^t. Then you get stuff like what is going on over replacing the Mailcat (yes, I have been calling it that since I first came across TFE's video for myself) on top of the other problems they are facing, and it becomes no wonder why the USPS is now struggling.
@Metal_Auditor8 ай бұрын
Well the reason that the law was passed to make it a monopoly was because some guy once started a competing mail company and actually managed to provide better service for a significantly lower price.

More like, the wrong place, at the wrong time, but you were wearing the right clothes. Were you interviewed after? Like, did cops do the stereotypical, 'Did you notice the model of the vehicle, and you said 'Yes' and they said 'What was it?' and you said 'I'm not saying.' and they ask 'Why not?" and you say 'Because they know where I work' and they just nod like 'Fair point. We'll skip that one'
