I’m no Trump fan, but I agree with your comment. Of all the cases against Trump, this was the worst one to pursue. Anyone with half a brain knows that almost every public figure (i.e., politicians, athletes, actors, musicians, etc.) will take steps to cover up any news that would show them in a negative light. The Georgia case where he called up the Secretary of State and asked him to find votes is the most clear cut example of election interference that you could ask for. But the Prosecutor was a boneheaded and got caught up in a misconduct issue. I don’t know. I guess I’m glad that justice was done and he was convicted by a jury of his peers, but it was a lame case to bring. Hopefully it doesn’t galvanize independents and make them sympathize with Trump as some sort of victim.

It's unlikely for a state trial to go directly to the U.S. Supreme Court, as it typically reviews cases from state supreme courts or federal appellate courts. However, if a state trial case involves significant federal constitutional issues, it could eventually be heard by the Supreme Court after exhausting all lower court appeals.

In this case novel does not mean extra-judicial or made up, this was a novel case by a novel defendant and had to be handled as such. The amount of compelling evidence including Trump's own statements made the decision very obvious for the jury - guilty on all counts - unanimously found guilty.

To make sure the jury could understand this novel theory the judge read to the jury very clear instructions, only 50 pages of instructions. So, if the trial happened in another state, what would have been the outcome? 🤔
