Before the Dynamic brake it does make you wonder how they load tested the engines back then... A trackside station of some thing I would guess. Now a days like in this video the engine load is sent to the dynamic grids (why you can hear the dynamic brake fan) and the engine shows the amps and resistance to the engineer or mechanic, and they decided if the engine is good or not.

exactly, leads ran into the hi voltage cabinet to load it down with external resistor banks.

It used to run on the Everett railroad In duncansville Pennsylvania there biggest customer which was a paper mill closed down that’s why they sold 561
