He wasn't a good president but I most certainly admire and respect the man for what he accomplished after he left office. He established the Carter Center which promoted and expanded civil rights, he traveled extensively to conduct peace negotiations, he wrote many books, taught at Emory University,......... He kept himself busy after he left the political arena and that, I think, is what helped him live such a long life. RIP #39.

President Carter sent helicopters in to rescue hostages in Iran, during a sand storm. I don't think he really wanted to engage the enemy, but wanted to appear to do something. I didn't think much of him as president, however that all changed when three mile island happened. That man took his family there for lunch. He was telling America and the World that we had control of the situation, and we were safe. That's leadership, and integrity. God bless Jimmy Carter.

No one sold the canal. The change in ownership came about as a part of a treaty to guarantee peace in the region. The US also pays the same rate as anyone else to use the canal.
