the reason "star" sounds so solid for an english version is because the demo of the song was completely in english, so i think "star" would be the original version.

Even if the demo was in English if the song was meant for Kpop then the companies ask the writers to write whatever as lyrics bcoz they're going to rewrite everything in Korean. That's why sometimes the English versions sound so cheesy and sometimes even cringe and bad. In case of star it still has a bit of those characteristics but still written better and the production and vibe and pace of the song also helps.

This might sound weird and I'm not sure if I can explain it exactly. I can imagine that hide and seek would be like the perfect song to like show their future concerts. Does anyone get that? Like if they filmed their concerts and edit it together to show what they are like. In the fun energetic parts of the song they can show the girls having fun. In the parts of the song where it's the whisper 'I like it like that', they can like show of the cool moments. Then when the song slows down they can show the sad moments when like the girls say goodbye and stuff. Finally when the song is like speeding up and makes all the weird noises they can just flash through a bunch of different moments. Does that make sense to anyone else, like can you envision it?

I think the "losing the Loona sound" comment is bolstered by fans knowing about the changes at the company last year. People can point to that and know something obviously changed, and use this as a reason for them not enjoying their last two title tracks as much. Personally, it's difficult for me to point at their music from pre-debut and the Hi High and Butterfly eras and say there was a concrete "sound" that defined them. I don't think there ever was the intention for there to be one in the first place. It's like you said, there is something different now, but I've never felt like it doesn't suit them. These girls are chameleons, and every album they've put out has amazing songs on it. I have no complaints.

it's more of a established color that was made by monotree and jj. They produced all albums from heejin to xx which means every album has their touch and alterations that made that loona sound. One of the guys in monotree actually said that loona sound is this space-y or dreamy type of vibe where they make use of reverbs and echos in a way that it feels so spacious and dreamy. take for example uncover, it is a very simple track if you try to listen to it, but it became a loona song because of how spacious and dreamy it feels. It is also obvious in the two title tracks before lsm touched the loona discogephy. The use of synths with reverbs and echoes is obv at the intro of the songs. The only song that i can think is very far from the loona sound that is made before # is favOrite. I can say that sound peaked at xx that's why transitioning from xx to # has made orbits say loona is loosing their sound because the loss of monotree's touch and color in the album has their built image and sound suddenly gone. The only traces i can think that was left at # is oh yes i am which is a stretch. Even tho yes. it has that distinct uniqueness and color, monotree's techniques are not seen in the song, even in the album itself. But it is not something bad, the songs are actually good, it's just, that aesthetic value that loona used to have with their sound when they have monotree, and even if i dont want to say it, jaden jeong, was gone even tho it is something that made loona that unique side of kpop that didn't felt like kpop becayse of how differrnt it is. But then again, they need to appeal domestically, so lsm's touch on their discography could be useful, but apparently....they didn't even enter melon 100 so... welp all in all, for me, loona sound exist, and it's not that their losing it, their trying to expand their horizons and their sound. So maybe let's say that the loona sound is getting more kpop?!?!? edit. I think voice and universe is so loona that my orbit heart exploded when i heard this two, i felt like voice is in the lines with girl front and universe is basically a LA MAISON TRACK THAT WE NEED edit. I JUST REALIZED, WHY NOT FEELS THE SAME AS LOVE4EVA, THEY ARE BOTH THIS CHEERFUL AND KINDA BRIGHT SONG IN THE SURFACE BUT IT FEELS UNSETTLING AND BOTHERING, THERE IS THIS CRIPPLING FEELING FROM THE SONG AND I LOVE IT

Your reaction to Universe is EXACTLY how I felt when I first listened and I’m so glad you pointed it out! The second chorus is so beautiful because the rhythm has already built up in the verse and pre-chorus and when the actual chorus hits the instrumental is already ‘complete’. It’s such a unique transition that you don’t see many producers using. It makes the song just flows so effortlessly from section to section. The production is absolutely flawless and in my opinion Universe is truly a masterpiece.

Voice fits so much with the midnight festival album concept, I imagine them on a journey to travel through the universe and alternate dimensions in those black gowns. As an SM stan for over 9 years, SooMan is neither an angel nor a devil. He is a man and a human being. He did some great things, he made groups that made Kpop the way it is now, he has good ideas, he made a lot of great things, and at the same time, he made mistakes and he misjudged other things, like any other human being\ceo on earth. Most fans tend to label people\idols\ceos either good or evil, but reality is that people can't be labeled that way. If anything I think what he is doing with loona is good and he helped the girls really well. Even before loona was created jaden jeong (the creator of the lore) had published in his Instagram photos of him planning the lore, in which in a sheet of paper could be read the name giselle (dk if im writing it right) and other names next to a song (which is twilight by kimlip) and after lsm worked with loona, coincidentally one of the girls is named giselle. She also seems to have an odd eye, which would be fine if it wasn't for the shape of the odd eye. A crescent moon in the bottom half of the eye... Just like in the OEC unit, not to mention all the references to the moon that has appeared in the teasers of the aespa members. It would be fine if it was only for aesthetics, no one is saying loona did the odd eye first but it has so much meaning to the lore and loona's history that it's not only disrespectful to them, but to aespa as well. but still, orbits are mad. bc even if lsm hadn't worked with loona, they were doing fine as it is and people are attributing loona's success to him when orbits and the girls have been working hard for years. He was supposed to make them chart well in Korea, but they aren't. All the success they have is mainly from the west, and that was way before lsm even inserted himself in the picture. So yeah, fuck lee sooman.

The moon, the eyes, the new universe, the members with powers. But it is not like that. Because the details are different and both exo and loona have different approaches even when things look the same from the outside. So before we jump onto conclusions, we can wait until we understand what is happening with aespa and if he really stole their concept 🤷🏻‍♀️

the loona sound definitely exists, but i see it more as characteristics and details included in their songs rather than a specific music genre like people think it is for some reason. for example, short sound samples that add "texture" to the instrumental and that are common in most of their songs (ex: the chopped vocal samples you can hear in egoist, favOriTe, and just about any loona song tbh. favOriTe, by the way, is the song blockberry says defines loona's sound, as it's written on the official music video description). think about their album intros: there's no/little singing and what "drives" the song, rather than it just being an instrumental, are the various sound samples they make sure to add to give it a bit more dimension. this is a characteristic that can be present in any song of any genre and in my opinion is a pretty genius way of giving them a signature sound. the 12:00 intro alone for example - i can't think of any group that would ever give me a song like that. you can put loona's discography on shuffle and i guarantee you're gonna notice these details, if you haven't already. loona are known to have a diverse discography, it can literally go from french pop to future bass. the same people who are the most vocal about loona having "one of the most diverse discographies in kpop" are also the same who like preaching that "the loona sound is gone" by erroneously thinking that their signature sound is dependent on the genres they do, which is ridiculous since they literally have an entire predebut project with 12 VERY different solos, 3 VERY different subunits and an entire universe. their sound was never meant to be attached to any genre. so basically, the loona sound >is< a thing, it's just not dependent on any genre and it allows them to continue enriching their discography with as many genres as the loonaverse requires given its current timeline. (this was a very long comment and i'm sorry 😭)

Star's lyrics were written by the original songwriters and arrangers of Voice (a mix of Americans and Europeans), whereas Voice's lyrics were written by Koreans brought in later. The official album description of the song also refers to Voice as the Korean language version of Star. My guess is that the reason that Star sounds good is because technically Star is the original, and this is technically the original vision of the song. And given that the lyrics are written by Americans (and English, and Dutch), they flow and convey emotion well in English (rather than sounding awkward like how many English version songs in K-pop sound). Also, too many songs try to keep elements of the lyrics the same, especially for hook choruses and stuff, but it doesn't always make for a good fit.

@@yuma9987 i kinda forgot which variety show it was ( probably fact in star or vlive ) but the clip circulated around orbit twt on that time. they were reading comments from fans and one of them commented about how yves' hair doesn't fit her and made her "unattractive"; chuu ended up reading it and was commenting under her breathe about how the commenter should look in the mirror to see who's ugly and one of the members heard it, laughed nervously, and tapped chuu on the thigh because they were live. it was still caught on camera tho.

As much as I am being honest that Monotree + JJ’s prod. are top tier. I cannot deny the fact that the produced songs under LSM are also great too. I'm gonna be very honest, that statement about LOONA losing their "sound" really pisses me off, let the girls be, let them explore genres, concepts, work with different producers, etc. I wish orbits could get over pre debut era and stop putting them in a pigeonhole. On my first few listens i let the album casually play album in the background while working on something else. They both caught my ear immediately as my favourite songs on the album but i legit didn't realize they were just different versions until i checked their names!

I watched this on Twitch and now I watched this again. It's almost better than the first time, because I've listened to the album a few more times. You really managed to make Universe even better for me, and it was already one of my favourite songs on the album. After a few listens, the album just feels so complete to me, and definitely within their range of 'sound'. I agree completely that they didn't exactly have a sound. There was almost a 'feeling' with their music that I felt was universal, but that's more because of the members themselves. I get similar 'feelings' with Voice, Sweet Crazy Love and Satellite, but these songs are still so different. I even get similar feelings with Voice and Butterfly, but that's because of the atmospheres both songs create. Once again, I loved this listening party and I'm so excited to hear your thoughts on the album after listening to it more.

I think it's not about Loona sounds that Orbit afraid that Loona gonna gone or throw away. I think it's more about the lore that they afraid Loona gonna stop doing when Lee Soo Man start to involve. You know, we into Loona because of the experience that Loona serve since the beginning of they debut or more specifically since OEC? When the lore, coming together, every pieces of the Loonaverse created this amazing journey. So, when SM himself comes in, everyone panic, some love it other doubt it. "Oh no, Loona is not doing the mobius anymore" Then, when 'So What' release we can agreed that the song is really not what Loona typically do. That's the starting point of all this "Oh, it doesn't sound like Loona anymore" among Orbit. And that's my 2cents lol
