Engines on the ground. Mechanics working through the night. Oil grease, cigarettes, sweat and beer. Excitement. Anticipation. The 70's was probably the era when all elements ( Technical innovation and discovery, fun, excitement, danger, entertainment, hard work, dedication, spectator enjoyment and emotion ) were in perfect balance.

THIS IS FANTASTIC A GLIMPSE INTO A GREAT PERIOD OF F1

During the time that the crew was in Monza for the shooting I won a race and at the award ceremony Francoise Hardy gave me a kiss for the victory. After this victory, the director made me do the stunt driver for the actors. There was a beautiful girl who is still my wife and sometimes she reminds me of this episode. Memories now too distant in time!

Wow - beautiful. and so evocative of a time long gone. This race had the most exciting GP finish ever of course (with Monza 1971 running it close), in those far off days when Monza was a flat out, wonderfully enthralling circuit.

A really wonderful film from such a glorious era. Monza without chicanes, a no-holds barred glorious race with no messing about. No safety cars around. Those drivers managed without all this modern clap-trap, and the sport was all the better for it. Shame about the sound-track, but at least it was music current at the time. Ultimately, very sad as all things are when people get old or are killed in pursuit of what they enjoyed.

Thanks for this great video, even if you can't hear the speaker's commentary. But thanks to Deepl, I can at least express my thanks in the local language. The racecars from the 1960s to the 1970s were the most beautiful and hottest in Formula 1 history, at least that's how I see it. The sound and the tracks, the whole atmosphere at the races never came back. Of course it was sad for all the drivers who lost their lives, but that's still the case today.

Pedro Rodriguez died July 11, 1971. Jo Siffert died October 24, 1971. Silvio Moser died May 26, 1974. Graham Hill died November 29, 1975. Except for Hill who died in a plane crash, all were killed in a motor racing incident.

If these people could jump into the future and see a modern GP operation, they would think they were in another planet. The irony is, yes, cars are a lot faster now, but not that much faster when we consider the enormous leap in technology. Yes, there are new chicanes at Monza, but pole time by Rindt in 69 was 1:25.5, and in 2023 Sainz pole was 1:21.9. What I mean to say is, 54 years later, for someone on the stands, a car goes only 3.5 seconds faster per lap, and the top speed for those 1969 cars was pretty impressive too, over 200 mph.

Erano epoche magiche e irripetibili.
