It’s great being a relative newbie to FD and drifting as a whole. I have no biases nor preconceived notions of who got robbed. I see why Aasbo won. He was more consistent than anyone else. There were obviously close runs between him and Wang and even JTP. But there were times in Wang and JTP’s runs where you can tell the L came from. Love this sport and hope it keeps growing! Stop bickering and just enjoy the amazing skill these guys put down!

I disagree. Aasbo's wins come purely from his follow runs- EVERY lead run he had in this video was weaker than his opponents' lead.

@@beezy7412 Nah Toyota specifically wanted them to convert it to RWD because that's what the team who built this specializes in. They also just released this version of the Corolla so it's good marketing.

Kinda parked it on Piotr but hey that's the level of the sport now, being a super beast driver isn't enough. And I definitely can't say anyone got robbed. I wanted JTP to win since I'm a Falken and Ford fan boy so that livery on that car is killer but Aasbo's chase runs are undeniable.

Kristaps Bluss all the way, one of the fastest drift champs. Just give him a more open track and he'll dominate. Aasbo has a great setup for Small tracks.

People really hating on the corolla lol It's tiny, it was FWD, it's expensive and unrealistic. Please any of the pro cars are expensive and unrealistic the car does look shorter but it fits within guidelines. I honestly don't see the problem with his car, as for the runs they were a bit shaky but it was enough to pull out a win!

It was manufactured as front wheel drive but It has been modified to rear wheel drive with lots of power and tourque.. there is another video mentioning all the details

A chase can change the game. A lot of people saying the last run was rigged. Wang already had the upper hand in the lead but he lost it when he didn't maintain sticking with Aasbo the second and last turn. You maybe thinking that, "yes your suppose to leave a gap at a transition" but his gap for transition was too big and eventually lost momentum. Aasbo was suppose too loose by his sloppy entry at the chase run but Wang eventually made a larger mistake killing the momentum of his run.

if you compare chase to chase runs and lead to lead runs, aasbo had a much better chase run than pawlack but then pawlack had a much better lead run, but then aasbo's line in his lead run was too shallow and pawlacks line in his chase was also shallow and all over the place so it would have been unfair to give either driver the win there

Would anyone care to share the mechanics of Formula Drift competitions and how a driver wins? Is it based on points, execution, or something magical that can't be explained? To me, it looks like they're all winner even the drivers that hit the cones.

Nobody knows what goes on up there in that judges office haha. No its a 3 person team of 'experts'. They have a whole list of things they are looking for. Angle of drift, smoothness, how close you got if you are following, 'showmanship' amount of smoke. I think there are more but thats what i can tell you off the top of my head. I love drifting but the comp aspect is a bummer for me because every single run there is a chance of the judge getting it wrong for whatever reason. I think it could be SO much better. It would be awesome if it was impartial like most popular pro sports are(other than ref calls but those arn't every play), especially motorsports. There must be a way to replace the system of oh his drift looked a little smoother than the other guys, judging system with a impartial probably points system. I'm just not smart enough to come up with it. Sorry for the long screed and a year later . You dont even remember watching this and i'm all excited about it lol

I’ve got no interest in being rich or anything I am just wondering if it’s possible to sustain a life with a family and a nice enough house off of being in formula D. A lot of people have said that there is no money in drifting but surely guys like Fredric make a living of off this and if so how do they do it, do they have other jobs or what?

Dreg I think you can but I you really have to get your name out there like Chris forsberg and Ryan tureck. Drifting is an expensive sport to begin with so you won't be making any money unless you make it to a high level and get sponsorships. It would be sweet tho.

Compared to driving straight, drifting with a near perfect tilt actually leads to less speed reduction while turning, leading to minimimum time possible to finish the lap.

StayLow ForLife dude he is working with what he has at his disposal... that four cylinder makes 1k hp. Okay 👌 cool.. BUT, for him to get the most out of it he has to wind it out all the way and on that tight and narrow (not to mention very short course) so he is doing better than most of us could. And point numero uno? That car was meant to be fwd. and its rear wheel now. Yeah it’s modified a good bit but its a terrible platform and he is doing the best he can with it. So give him a pass. Toyota could have given him a darn truck and it would have been better than that chassis
