FYI stroop is the Dutch word for syrup, they’re delicious sweet syrup waffles that are even better fresh (often at markets) & go perfect with a coffee. I lived in the Netherlands for a few years and these were definitely a highlight!!

I am from the Netherlands and from the town (Gouda) these waffles originated from. Some 28 years ago I started traveling to many places and settled abroad. One thing I learned during these travels is that these waffles put a smile on anyone's face, anywhere in the world and are a guaranteed icebreaker. The other one would be Gouda cheese, however a bit tricky to keep good and in some cases frowned upon at customs.

Stroop wafels are very popular with all the foreign people i work with here in the Netherlands. Next to stroop wafels i always try to get them to pick up a smoked sausage from the Hema store with mustard sauce on a bun. Think hotdog only the sausage is much thicker.
