📚 History:
The history of Foroglio dates back to the 16th century, when the village was first mentioned in a document as “Furio”. The name Foroglio comes from the Latin word “furor”, meaning “fury” or “rage”, which refers to the force of the waterfall. The village was part of the municipality of Bignasco until 2004, when it became an independent municipality. The village has about 20 permanent residents, but many more visitors during the summer months. The village of Foroglio is part of the Bavona Valley, which is one of the wildest and most isolated valleys in Switzerland and was formed by a glacier and is characterized by granite walls and boulders.

Foroglio is an enchanting village where you can enjoy nature, history and culture. You can hike to the stunning Foroglio waterfall, which is 80 meters high and only 10-15 minutes away from the village. You can also explore the village and its 17th-century church and stone houses. If you are feeling adventurous, you can hike up to Val Calnegia, a valley with more waterfalls, bridges and alpine meadows. You can also taste the local cuisine at the Osteria Efra, a restaurant near the waterfall. The best time to visit Foroglio is between May and September, when the weather is mild and the scenery is beautiful.
