Its crazy when you see good house shot bowlers and how differently everyone throws it. Every ball roll is different. The Pros vary of course but they all seem to try and emulate an ideal roll. These league guys are so good and know their ball motion so well. Its refreshing to remember not everyone is Belmo but can still be a kick ass bowler.

Scratch leagues are very few and far between in my area. They exist but they're small. 2nd shift leagues are pretty much extinct. Interesting to see a lot of people playing inside even on a burnt-up shot. I'd be left banking it to the gutter and back. That's the way to score at my house if you got the speed and hand.

Used to bowl a scratch head-to-head league that was the second league of the night and they didn't do fresh oil, so it was f'd all the time. But this was back in the 90's and was like $12 a week. I bowled 4 leagues a week back then and it was less than $40 a week total.

We bowled scratch leagues back in the 70's when the lanes were oiled at 5am-6am in the morning and that was it. By the time we hit the lanes there was already some 25-30 games on the lanes.

Last time I bowled league was 2001. Back bowling but only tournaments and sweepers. Biggest difference is how the lanes get stripped every time they are oiled, and the oil moves around more.

@@ForrestKritzer Wow. Been a few years since I've been able to bowl. Think first place took $125 to split amongst the 5 team members in my last league. 2nd was $50 and 3rd was $25. Paid a few $25 things like high game, high series and so forth. Then of course, point money. Think at the end of the 35 week season, my teammates each got $100 or so. We were all about cheap. Half the league was incredibly competitive. The half took it as a night to get out of the house and drink some beer with their friends. A few of them, a lot of beer.

I liked it when you pulled out the Zen, one of my favorite balls! .. Steeeeriiiiike! .. Forrest, you guys need to come and play league with me and my bowling buddy Jo. We have a blast. We sometimes can't hit the broadside of a barn, but we have a lot of fun trying. Every now and then however, we get really lucky, like last week Jo scored a 279, best game of his life. He has no idea how he did it. I bowled in Thurs league last night, sub'ing on a friends team. Didn't play too well first 2 games, but squeezed out a 211 the last game, winning our game by 15 and total pins by 16 (whew, close one). We had a TON of fun, the way league was meant to be. As I always tell people, we aren't PBA pro's (like Forrest) so don't take it so serious, just have as much fun as you can.
