Forry Ackerman introduces William Malone and Robby the Robot from Forbidden Planet. Bill Malone is kind enough to give us a guided tour into Robby's background and also shows the robot's inner (and outer) workings.

Robot was great, but the real treat was seeing Forry Ackerman. He was a wonderful friend. I miss him tremendously, but he made it to 92 and had a full and fascinating life.

I saw Forbidden Planet as a kid in a neighborhood theater with hundreds of other delinquents. I remember looking around and I saw that everybody else had the same look of wonder on their faces that I did. Hard to gauge how many sci-fi fans this movie created that year. I made a point of seeing every show that Robbie was in.

This was nice to see two of my favorite creations in the universe; Forrest Ackerman and Robby. I was lucky enough to meet Forry at convention in Montreal Canada in the early 90's. The convention a real fan run one (not a corporation) Had him as a guest of honour and in turn Forry had sent up some of his private collection of props and memorabilia. The magic moment for myself and my good lady was on the Monday morning after the end of the convention we went down to the lobby to check out and there was Forry patiently waiting for his cab to the airport. We sat and talked to him for a full thirty minutes before his cab arrived ( this is Montreal) He was very gracious and gentleman, a wonderful memory. Which Fan conventions where all about. Thank you Sir.

My nick name has always been Robby. I was a young child when I 1st watched Forbidden Planet and the 3rd listed was only 'The Robot'. When it was revelled that The Robot's name was Robby I connected to Robby straight away like he was a Robot version of me and his voice is amazing and I can't imagine any other voice for Robby. Forbidden Planet with Robby will always be my favourite film, also with the Monsters from the Id that wiped out the Krell 2,000 centuries ago. Is the Krell's advancement to a technology with no instrumentation computer a warning to us? Maybe, a friend of mine who is in the Air Force told me stuff that we are already on the way to no instrumentation control system. Despite our advancement, We are still human with monsters from the Id very much still there. A true story of everyday life from 4.500 years ago Egypt that was recently discovered and translated says to me we have not advanced at all with our emotions. That is why we have Laws today.

I wish the Maschinenmen (Fake Maria robot) had been kept like Robby for posterity, instead of burning it in the set. It has proven virtually impossible to replicate the face of the original Metropolis robot, the subtleties of the facial design had been lost forever, the metallic paint work caused the facial structure to vary according to lighting conditions and the lack of a three dimensional model makes it very difficult to pinpoint the exact facial structure to make a 100% accurate copy.

Robby of the Forbidden Planet appeared on episodes of The Twilight Zone and War Of The Robots on Lost In Space. I seen documentary footage of how they fit Bob May into the much bigger B9 suit of armor on Lost In Space. I've always wondered how they got an actor into that small torso and thin legged Robby suit. I'm not claustrophobic nor am I a stout guy but trying to fit into that Robby suit would kill me. Cool Posting !
