Lmao everyone being like "THEYRE LIKE BROTHERS" clearly hasn't watched the show, and nowadays I rarely see people exaggerating moments between the two of them, mainly because Dean & Cas are WRITTEN AS A ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP. Plus, the whole complaint about it being forced is complete bs, because the chemistry has been there since season 4. Has there been some fetishization of the ship?? Yes. Absolutely. And that bit isn't ok. However, the romance, the pining, the domestic love tropes...they're all there. A lot of hate Destiel gets is from people who think a gay relationship is inherently sexual and that's it. If one of them was a woman, nobody would be complaining. Their story is literally about how love conquers all - Cas says it himself. Complain all you want, but this is a love story. Two men loving one another shouldn't be controversial. Love shouldn't be controversial.

Is it just me or isn't there much from season 10 onward? From season 4 - 7 is where the most of these scenes are from, and then some in 8 - 11ish but it's toned down a lot. From there on we literally got scenes like "good morning, sunshine" and everyone freaked out. I feel like, from a writing standpoint, if it was true foreshadowing, it would increase in intensity and frequency with time. So much so that even casual viewers would see the romantic connection for what it is. But they can and do still deny it, and it really feels like there was no buildup at all - just a long continuous stream of emotional moments vs break, cycled. I really wish I felt happier about it being canon, sort of, although I don't really see it as "more" canon than it was 5 years ago 🤷

I don't think so, maybe they become more settled? We got a mix tape, canon they watch movies together (which was referred back to as kind of dating), Amara heart scene, Sam/Jess and Dean/Cas parallel, and those are the later scenes that I think of from the top of my head. Lily Sunder is also an ep that was a gift perfectly wrapped.

I would argue that season 8 is peak Destiel in terms of Dean literally creating false memories of leaving Cas in Purgatory, seeing Cas as a ghost, Cas overcoming Heaven's control just for Dean (even tho he was trained to kill specifically only Dean) and them fighting.

Plus, having the first half of the season focused on Dean's "bond" with Amara, then Cas' possession shifting the focus to their bond (the one that's stronger) is amazing to me. S8 is a good season though. I will never get over Cas being programmed to kill a thousand Dean's and still not able to kill the real one. I think the further into the seasons, the more overt they become textually. What makes them great is the years of progression. S10 mark of cain, Cas/Colette, would not have been as effective if it weren't for S8. @Madenique van Wyk 🥺 That's sad but understandable.

I feel like that was just the whole show, after like season 7 it was like oh ok sure, cool there were still emotional moments and whatnot, then after season 10, I started getting kinda bore, because nothing had any consequences. I mean who cares if Dean, Sam or Cas die, they'll be back soon enough. It was still fun to watch, it's a good kinda background noise show with some fun jokes and good relationship dynamics and shit. I wad just getting mad at the repetitiveness and the sheer amount of Angst was getting very annoying. Also they just kept on dragging all of this out, especially Destiel, so after a while I just stopped watching, because I didn't really care. I planned on rewatchinf it but it's not on Netflix anymore and I'm not paying for this 😂
