I visited the fort this past August with Fenton Wiffen. He had given me a copy of the commander's diary to read before our visit. I had known about the battle for the fort, but seeing it up close really showed what heroes the defenders were. I didn't take the stairs down to the lower levels but visited the upper levels. Fenton and I walked the top of the fort. We saw the concrete areas where the armaments were scrapped out and the extant bomb craters. We stood on top of the entry block and saw the strategic vista the fort had, as well as the displays with the arrows pointing to the sister forts. The most charming thing was that we found two apple trees, heavy with fruit, and harvested an armful. I also enjoyed the museum. I understand why the volunteers really love the fort.

A informative week on Fort Aubin, thank you. I remember as a teenager in the 70's seeing a triangular fort from the beginning of WW2, perhaps it was the excellent "The World at War"

This is a very nice collection.... ....Rony Spanenburg, a former guide of the Fort told me, that he opened the bunker MN26 in the valley south of the fort in the 90's and that this bunker was full of ammunition up to the roof.... after the war they apparently have put all the ammunition they found in there and bricked the entrance.... Tino, maybe u have already visit the museum of the battle of the bulge in La Gleize....if not, u have to go there....one of the best museum's I ever visited....but u have two little tiny museums too in the south of The Netherlands, one in Beek and one in Grevenbricht over the liberation in 1944..... they are all very interesting....

Hi Tino thank you for the interesting video, I noticed the rocket assisted shell, we used them in 155mm calibre, its called a base-bleed shell, the rocket doesn't push but rather fill the vacuum behind the shell lessening the drag caused by the vacuum that forms behind the projectile while in flight, increasing range and speed

Wow Tino that is right up there with the very best of your work. It’s just sitting behind the whole series on the enigmatic Dr. Hans Kammler and the RIESE project. Which I don’t think is finished by a long shot? Tino, you have done the men who fought and died here the greatest of respect. Once again getting out the stories of heroism and the greatest of courage. By just ordinary men that knowing who was outside. Thinking if I’m to die I’m going to take as many of them with me in the process. Knowing they were on their own as the front retreated. Being a harassment and pain, slowing the German advance by a set of stubborn forts. Maybe have saved the British and French troops in Dunkirk by these actions. They completely held the roads the Germans wanted so badly. We will never know the total dead suffered here by this little Belgium fort. But they were the resistance and let everyone know that Germany will bleed if men are like this! Was this a loss Tino, in military terms what happened here to Germany? That a small force of well entrenched men could do so much damage?
