It was at Fort Benning that a Brazilian Army captain named Roberto Pêssoa was appointed to take a parachuting course [airborne] in 1944. The following year, a decree-law determined the foundation of the Escola de Paraquedismo [airborne school] under the supervision of the Captain Roberto Pêssoa, then 46 more military officers studied at Fort Benning until 1948. They were the pioneers and served as instructors at the School starting in 1949. In 1952, the Airborne Division Nucleus was created, in which the Skydiving School was a part. Captain Roberto Pêssoa is considered the number 1 Brazilian paratrooper [airborner] in training. Died in 2010 with the rank of General of the Brazilian Army.

Someone died during my brother’s Airborne Class. Second Daytime jump I think. He went out one side, she went out the other, both last in the line. Next thing he knows he’s hearing megaphones yelling after his chute deploys. He kicks to correct, thinking he’s got a streamer, but he does not. He turns to just enough to see this student twisted in her chute plummeting and unable to deploy her Reserve. That was a Friday, so almost everything for the next week was cancelled or postponed due to the Safety Investigation. That gave us just enough time to go do a little bit of weekend AWOL to meet-up in New Orleans.

About six hours of training (three if you’re sharp) crammed into three weeks of “hooah” Armyness. The actual jumps were fun. The tedious music accurately reflects the overall mood. It’s a common denominator for being “high speed” & the first step in a series of never ending gut punches to become that which you’d dreamt of being since childhood.

The Marine Corps stopped sending Marines to Airborne School as a reenlistment bonus around 2010. The Marines that go to BAC are mostly Recon, Raiders, Intel or Logistics with the occasional other MOS thrown in there. However, sending Marines to BAC as part of a reenlistment bonus has been mentioned by the Commandant as a part of Talent Management 2030.

@@devonlucero2113 - Don't listen to THAT guy. 100 miles in 6 weeks (42 days) is about 2 miles per day - which is incredibly EASY. Look... If you're MOS is Infantry - your basic training will get you in shape for 5 miles per day easily. If your MOS is for something else in the combat arms - your basic training will still get you in adequate shape to handle Jump School fairly well. Now, if your MOS is for something like being a cook or a mechanic or some other occupation that never has to actually be a fighter - then your basic training will be a cakewalk - and Jump School will probably kick your ass. Not because Jump School is hard, but only because you're soft.

The only videos I've ever saw of the airborne training is after they jump out of the plane and thy're just slowly floating towards the ground. I didn't know it was intensive training on how to land properly or preparing to jump out of the plane or training what to do when you jump out of the plane. So my level of respect has grown a lot for the airborne after watching this video.

@@richardschafer7858bruh that was a show of force against a country that didn’t really have that good of anti air defense. Use Airborne Against any country that has good anti Air abilities and see how that goes, also enemy forces have drowned people by flooding fields as we saw in Russia . It’s just outdated and I don’t know why people get defensive. I’m not saying the US Airborne wouldn’t get the job done but it would get to many killed and have no benefit, why do airborne op when you can do the same without the huge risk. Just because you can successfully do something doesn’t mean you should do it especially if you can get the same results using far less risky methods. Was operation Airborne dragon necessary, seriously think about it.

@@richardschafer7858 from literally any of the info I can gather all those ops your talking about could have been done without Airborne. Did you fail Airborne school? You seem a bit bitter. Do you believe all the propaganda about Russia because they are not as incompetent as they are portrayed. Do you understand the USA has the most legitimate military in the world and is way more equiped than the rest of the world? Not trying to be an asshole or a dick about anything, I'm actually asking. The Russian airborne or military for that matter can not stand up to the US military. Most militaries throughout the world can't compete to the United States military. Their is a complete difference between soldiers who strive to be involved, volunteer to be in such a demanding job, and legitimately think they are the best, than there is soldiers who are forced to join unwillingly and told it's a mandatory thing or operate in a dictator type country. That sense of purpose and pride is lost. I understand what you are saying but I personally think it is different when it comes to the US, we are on an absolute different level when it comes down to the individual soldiers in these types of units. We would operate way better than any other country.
