As many of you are aware I am stationed at Fort Hood. A lot of you have been asking me where is Vanessa ? To answer your question I do not know. I know as much information as they are putting out in the media. Please do not think just because I am station on Fort Hood I am getting exclusive information because that is not the case. With that being said I just uploaded a video about Fort Hood and what is going on with updates and my opinions about the installation.

West Fort Hood, 1972 - 1974. Four man rooms with two WW2-era double bunks, four metal wall lockers, one steel desk, and one steel chair. The common latrine and showers for the whole wing was down the hall.😂
@31Mike11 ай бұрын
The room looks tiny compared to what we had in 89 and 90 when I was there, but our rooms were 3 man rooms. No kitchen, of course. But we did have little dorm style refrigerators. I wish video cameras were more affordable and widespread back then, I'd have a lot of video of Fort Hood back in that time. As it is, my brother visited with his camera so I did get a little video. My barracks buildings (I lived in three), were pretty close to III Corps HQ. My last building was 39051-A, (right across the street from the Freeman Dining Facility and within eyesight of Darnall Army Hospital). I can see it on Google Earth, and can see that it's been renovated. Never thought I'd miss those days, but if I could time travel backward, I'd love to be back there in 89 and 90. I REALLY miss the Robin Hood subs from the shopette in the III Corps parking lot! I've longed for those subs since the day I left in 1990.

Stationed at B. Co, 142nd Signal Bn, 2nd Armored Division from April '85- December '87. Very nice barracks. Better than the red brick buildings that I stayed in. They were nice back then with painted cinder block walls. "Triple Threat" had the very nice newer barracks back then. No kitchenette, no in room bathrooms. Had open bay showers. I know it's a different Army than 30+ years ago. You wasn't born yet. Are there red brick barracks on Battalion Avenue anymore??? LMK. I need to visit Ft. Hood one day...............

I was in the 3rd Signal Brigade (57th Sig Bn). The "Triple Threat" that you mentioned. I was there from early 88 to late 90. I did like our barracks. I think I'd rather be in those from back in the day than what's shown in this video.

Fort hood is my next duty station. What can you do for entertainment in and around Killeen and is it as bad as everyone says it is?
@ThePaddyFam4 жыл бұрын
Killeen itself isn’t that much but the surrounding cities are awesome. Movie theaters, bowling etc. Austin is only 1 hour away. Dallas Is 2 hours and Houston is 3 hours away. So pretty accessible on the weekends to go explore. I’ve gone hiking, indoor sky diving, played in arcades. You can pretty much do whatever. Every duty station is what you make it. If you sit around miserable that’s exactly how you will be. But if you look at all the possibilities you can have then you will have them. There’s a lot of drugs and stuff right outside post so be careful of the crowd you keep.

Well, I have to say that, overall, these are pretty good. Of course, my perspective of military barracks comes from 40 years ago, when I served in the USMC. We never got good barracks (no a/c at Camp Pendleton), but one thing about it.....they were kept super clean!!! Even when we moved into a new room, it was scrubbed clean before it was evacuated by the previous occupant. Doesn't the Army make their soldiers police/scrub their areas, especially when they move in and out of a barracks?? Jeesh, we had a "barracks NCO/Mama" (okay, I served as a Woman Marine back then) who was very persnickety about the cleanliness of our barracks. We had a community head (bathroom with showers and 1 tub) at each end of a horseshoe shaped 3-deck barracks. Every Thursday night was "field day" and Fridays were inspections. If you didn't pass that inspection, no one left on "liberty" that weekend. The cleanliness of that room you had to move into was simply disgraceful. I thank you for your service and wish you all the best on your tour here at Ft. Hood.
