What happened is the hull filled with gas fumes and was ignited by an electrical spark. The fan that clears the fumes may not have been working. Lack of maintenance most likely or it could have just went out. I'm betting it was out.

Yep... not knowing how to properly operate a boat. The engine compartment is somewhat sealed.... you MUST turn on a blower to clear the air of gas fumes..... This was preventable.

Totally avoidable. Neglected, malfunctioning or disconnected safety equipment. They should never make gas boats that big…. If you have one, never forget that can happen if you screw up. Alcohol involved?

Have never seen this in my life.. given how the top deck disjointed and flared up may indicate a tremendous amount of gas pressure build up of some sort, as many suggested perhaps gasoline fumes, etc. I don’t think this was a plated bomb though, the symmetry of the explosion looked more gaseous than ballistic. An actual IED the would’ve packed so much energy that boat would’ve gone to pieces all over.
