Fort Worth Texas history and cartography is explored and examined from this vintage map that was originally produced in 1891. In the video we zoom in and look at various historical aspects that make this map so great! The map itself is a birdseye perspective map in that we get to see a 3d representation of the city of Fort Worth that displays building architecture, changes in elevation, roadways, vegetation and much more.

that elevated area with homes you referred to at 3:12 next to the rail line is where the abandoned old Butler Projects still sits which is on the east side of I35

I drive in downtown Ft Worth all the time (courier)..... WOW! Crazy to see a lot of the roads I drive on and buildings I see have been around for over 100 years.

The building you are looking for might be the Texas Spring Palace. It burned to the ground in 1890.

As someone that was raised in Fort Worth, I do recognize some of these buildings that still exist. There are street names which helps tremendously. That building you thought was a university is probably John Peter Smith Hospital. Thank you. It’s hard to find things like this. What surprises me the most is how built up in was at this time.

I was born and raised there, i looked it up. That building is the Post Office! That was fun!

Not the post office. The post office is in that location now since the building in question burned in 1890. It was the Spring Palace exhibition hall. Interesting history if you look it up. The dome was the second largest dome in the US with the Capitol building in DC being the largest

The Tarrant County Courthouse was built from the same quarry that the Texas State Capital Building was built from. You properly identify that building as being built in 1891. It was rebuilt in 1896. It's clear to me that you've never been to Fort Worth. Many of those buildings downtown continue to exist.

I’m surprised you don’t mention anything about how in the hell they built all those amazing buildings back in those times because many of them still look brand new!!! I mean have you seen the post office?

That University in the back is Actually the original TCU original campus building before they were called TCU. The building caught on fire and got burned out. TCU moved out of the building and moved to Waco then their Campus in Waco burned down. Lol! Then they moved back to Ft Worth.

if you take one of Historic Fort Worth's tour's, there is either this same map or a very similar one inside the Ball-Eddleman-McFarland house on Penn Street. I don't remember the date of the map, but it's quite interesting to look at
