About 1211 the king of Hungary Andrei II mentions in a document addressed to the Teutonic knights, the name of the river Târlung, on the banks of which the town of Prejmer is developing (Tartlau is the Saxon name).
The Teutonic knights who receive rights to this territory are those who
will raise, up to a certain level, the church in Tartlau
The entrance is through a 30-meter long tunnel, protected by an iron hoist
that could be lowered over potential attackers. Legend says it that the missing tooth was broken when struck the head of an ottoman attacker.
Inside, the look suggests a beehive. There are over 27o small rooms,
one for each family in the village. The room number was the same as the house, that's why they are all numbered.
Here the people and provisions were sheltered in the event of an invasion.
Relation to the spirit and forms used on the site of the Cistercian monastery church Cârța, and on the other hand, with those present at St. Bartholomew's Church in Brașov, both built after the middle of the thirteenth century, allows dating of the evangelical church in Prejmer
in the second third of the thirteenth century and its inclusion in the same stylistic environment
In the church is the oldest triptych in Transylvania, dated between 1450-1460.
Because Prejmer was the first locality to receive blows from the Turks
come through Buzau Pass, after King Sigismund of Luxembourg disposed
the establishment of defense systems in Barsa Country, the fortification of the church began by raising a high enclosure and strong surrounded by a wide trench of water.
The fortress, built in a circle shape, it had walls 3-4 meters thick and 12 meters high, bastions, iron gates, and rising bridges.
A patrolling road used to supply fighters from the battlements.
In addition to the holes in the walls, in the fortress, there was an unusual combat device: the famous "Death organ". Consisting of several weapons placed together, who were firing at once, it caused the enemy great panic and heavy losses.
The place of worship was built in the Burgundian Gothic style
introduced by Cistercians at Cârța Monastery.
Dedicated to the "Holy Cross", the church was erected on a central plane, on the Greek cross, modified by the interventions of the sixteenth century. Initially, the building consisted of four equal arms placed around a square centered by an octagonal tower.
