Hey Alex why didn’t you use the obo d’flecta for the first drill
@AlexWitty5 жыл бұрын
We like using the cones because they're even more unpredictable than the d'flecta. Sometimes you can almost predict ball movement with the d'flecta but with the cones its small unpredictable movements.

Hey witty love the vid, a bit of feedback though, at about 9 minutes during PC training the camera follows the dragflick to than pan to goal, I found that if that was too repeated it could give motionsickness and not so pleasant to watch, maybe just focus on goal only. Keep up the good work.

Pretty cool to see your progress. Your technique in the videos of four years ago is so weak in comparisson with your technique of today!

For me the effect of the cones look rather minor ?! There is a structured plate by (if I remember correct) Obo that should work much better.

at 6:27 you comment that you no longer aim to rotate your leg so much to clear the ball but I'm wondering what your focus or logic is instead? Comparing that rep to the one at 6:47 I can see that your leg does not rotate as much in the later save. I could imagine that the logic there is keeping the larger surface of the legguard behind the ball at the moment of contact and also lined up with any potential rebound shot, but I'm wondering if there is a tradeoff as to quality of the space into which you clear the ball with less rotation?

Hi Hockey Goalie here really don't agree with this here, you are going to create major problems for yourself and your Goalie career. Drill 1 and a lot of goalies do this you are standing way too passive and deep in the goal you need to stand more forward to make the goal smaller tell your coach to take the shots further back in a real game situation like this you would never be this deep in the goal you will be more aggressive. Do me a favor stand at the one goal post take one nice step forward, and mark it. Do the same at the other post. No stand in the middle of the goal take one and a half steps forward and mark it. There is you half circle to guide you to where you should stand. If you ignore this principle you will struggle a lot with wide balls in the corners. Drill 2 You are stomping at the ball stop that! If you are creating this up-and-down motion with your whole body and it is slow and weak when you connect the ball if you do ever stop a ball like that the ball will not clear the circle effectively and the ball will land up right in front of you and possibly in a opponents reach. What you need to practice is lifting your feet off the ground like 1 cm and using your entire body in a forward motion towards the direction of the ball and the direction you are trying to clear the ball to if the ball is higher than your knee then by all means lift the leg but you are neglecting basic principles the way you are training. Go watch the video you keep your balance towards your middle and the ball ends up 1 or 2 meters in front of you that's bad for rebounds, push forward. Please try my method you will see major improvements. Drill 3 coach is too close and you are too deep in the goal again. He should move back and hit harder. Game situation no one is going to hit this soft you have pads you are safe. Also, your center of gravity is still too far back it needs to be forward so you can block the ball with more power and speed, Push forward toward the ball with the low balls using your whole body and body weight. Remember this is field hockey, not ice hockey, we need to clear the ball out of the circle. Drill 4 standing too deep in the goal again. 5:08 proves my point you can't reach the ball. Your point on body position for the 2nd save is fair but if your 1st save is proper you won't always have to be ready for a second save but there will be times you will need to be ready for a second save. Recovering after the first save as quickly as possible is important but making the 1st save is more important. Remember your 1st priority is to stop the ball from going in the net, 2nd priority is to clear the ball out of the circle. 3rd priority is to get ready for the next shot. I am assuming this is short corner practice why on earth are you walking forward? you need to rush into position, you are once again too deep in the goal, and any shots in the corners you can't reach. Regarding your comment about having too much weight on your left leg, this is because you are walking into position. The reason you rush into position as quickly as possible is so that you get your balance centered and ready to react in ALL directions. Also please stop with the whole turning your leg to block with the inside of the pad is bad if the ball is coming directly at you its a regulation save very basic you turn your leg to kick the ball harder, its basics. Drill 5 Got 2 things here. Again walking out the goal and not rushing, and too deep in the goal making the goal huge. It is one of the reasons you have a tendency to dive, it is your body's natural reaction because the ball is too far away. Your hand position has been weird for me throughout the whole video you are putting them in front of you like your coach is going to hand you a plate of food. Each hand needs to be in front of you but more toward the top corners of the goal and your stick and glove should point to the top corners as well, this is once again the basic stance for a goalie. Overall you are a good goalie but you lack some basics. I get the feeling you guys are trying to reinvent the wheel with some of these drills trying to fight basic instincts and change the basics because you think it benefits you. I don't think this training is helping as much as it could. As a goalie, you need to ask yourself with every goal why it got past you, and 90% of the time it is because you ignored the basics. the other 10% is related to your team not defending with you properly but once that ball enters the circle you are the captain, it is your domain and your responsibility to organize your team's defensive positioning to prevent a goal. For example, I always make sure there is someone covering a post behind me usually he stands against the post covering the opposition from sneaking in and deflecting the ball in. We use to call them posters :D Hope this helps and gives you some ideas. Please note this is meant as being constructive.
