+1000 for Kriega - their bags and tail packs are legendary. I've had the US-10 and US-20 for my bikes for years, and they're bulletproof. A couple of years back I accidentally caught one of the aluminium strap hooks in my car door and mangled it pretty badly. Emailed Kriega asking how much a spare one would be and they just sent me a new one, no charge, no problem - proper customer service and it wasn't even a fault with their equipment. Customer for life!

@@WontSeeReplies good point, except well, lock-picking isn't real. Yes, it's easy to do, but no, thieves don't do that. There are 50 easier ways to yoink the stuff than picking the lock, these include slashing the bag open, cutting the cable, using bolt cutters on the lock etc. A lock only prevents an opportunist, true, but it's not because they are easy to pick but because they are easy to bypass most of the time. Owned the Kriega Trail 18 and sold it fairly quickly. It's comfortable and waterproof but 18 litres is... optimistic as they made loading it with stuff a nightmare Currently own the newer Klim NakPak (it did come with a Klim hydration pack in the UK). Not waterproof but as comfortable as the Kriega, if not more so, and simple to load... and I think about 60% the price of the Kriega

Kriega - pay once and forget. My R20 is decade old, used daily for riding and non-riding cargo'ing and still looks like brand new with occasional wet wipe down.

Kriega will always get my vote because of their warranty. I had a crash and my bag ripped open, Kriega replaced it with a brand new bag despite it being 3 years old.

As someone that loves having a backpack around at all times, I have to recommend Osprey and even though I despise the crowd that 5.11 attracts, they also do make some awesome packs. Have been using both daily for work, hiking, camping, mtb and riding for 7 years now, same exact ones.
@ElectronNinja

Ditto that 5.11 seems to attract all the jeep tacticool chads, but it's genuinely good stuff. A rush 24hr usually ends up being my tail bag bungeed on. My last one kept up for nearly a decade of use.

@@ElectronNinja Nobody cares about the brand except you. All the people worried that their brand of bag attracts "tacticool mall ninjas" are way overly concerned about image and ego. Nobody actually cares that much. Real life is not the internet. If the bag is good and is within your price range, use it.

kriega for the win. My R20 lasted me many many years. Their quality is top notch. The high sitting sternum buckle was their design originally too (patent is up now hence everyone using it). Absolutely the best and well worth the money if you are going to be wearing it regularly.

Still, I'll keep my waterproof duffelbags. I have one 30L and one 50L and they cost me less than 150€ for the lot. Yes they're not fancy but I can shape them as I need. They only take up the space of what they contain. They're 100% waterproof, there's nothing that soaks up, just shake the water off of them. I use them as backpacks, hockey bags or saddlebags. Commuting, Sunday rides, hiking, travelling, they do it all 🤷 *p.s. Ubike is the brand.

My biggest concern with a backpack is the strength of the straps. If one strap breaks or a seam comes un-sewed while you are riding it's going to be unlikely that it won't cause you to crash.
