They're super informative, no BS. As a relatively new rider, I've come to trust Ryan's advice. Motorcycle veterans approve too. Please, never ever stop making these videos.

Even though I knew he meant ice skates, I thought ice skates were concave... like a slot running down the blade? How/why would you sharpen that? Haha I just watched a video once on how ice skates work (which is actually super cool. They hydroplane!) But it never mentioned sharpening so now my mind is blown! Either Ryan is an idiot (which I doubt) or a video entirely about how skates work left out a major part! Haha wtf! Time to get lost in the google hole again!

Froggs are fantastic, however, you have to purchase the heat shield patch, and glue it in place as per instructions. The jacket is very comfortable, it doesn’t make you all sweaty inside, although it does turn you into a bit of a sail. Frogg Togo’s - good kit.

I have used Frogg Toggs for years and they work great for the price. They are also great cold weather gear. Yesterday, I rode all day in temps from 32 to 56 wearing only a cotton t-shirt, mesh riding jacket and Frogg Toggs as the outer layer. Since I carry the rain gear anyway and it packs a little bulky, I just use it also as part of my cold weather kit.

Before you reapply ANY DWR, you should CLEAN your waterproof / breathable gear with an approved cleaner, e.g. Nikwax, Granger, etc. Dirty, oily gear is just as bad as gear with a worn-off DWR. You're more likely to "get wet" from sweating too much underneath any waterproof, breathable laminate, especially if humidity is high (these laminates need a temperature/humidity gradient to work effectively). These aren't loose weave linen shirts.

I agree with your tactics, IF ITS COLD. Anything that is waterproof will be less breathable, making it very uncomfortable in HOTTER weather. It might not get much above 25C in Canada, but for a lot of us, most of our riding is in the summer months when the heat gets much hotter. Also, motorcycle specific waterproof gear is expensive! My solution: Wear well fitting, breathable, lightweight moto-gear as the base-layer, then add layers over top for warmth/waterproofing. When it's hot, that's all you need, and you're more comfortable. When it's wet, throw on a normal outdoor gear rain jacket and pants, over-top of your moto gear. It's easy to keep on the bike, as outdoor gear is very thin, breathable and packable. I'd also recommend waterproof boot covers, as it seems no matter how long the waterproof pants are, they always find a way to ride up, and expose the opening to the top of my waterproof boots.

I haven’t read the comments so apologies if this is a repeat. As far as I know “Rainx”, or rather the method, was originally designed for aircraft in the 1950’s ish. Because wipers can’t work on an aircraft, the design of a coating on glass that sheds water was the best idea to move water out of the way of pilots vision so they could land and take off safe n sound. Search online for patents and it will pop up. Just FYI Love the channel. Thanks for all the info. Been credibly helpful and entertaining. Cheers

Holy Smokes! That’s one of the FUNNIEST (literally laugh out loud moments!) Man vs Wild parodies I’ve ever seen in my lifetime! You, sir, have some SERIOUS tongue-in-cheek writing and video production skills! So impressed. Gotta love those wacky Canadians, eh?

I used to commute year-round near Seattle. Learned to love, well at least not mind the rain and at times welcomed it. A good rain told me two things, the roads should be "clean" (meaning not oily) and there shouldn't be any ice. It was time to ride. For a DWR, a couple time a year, when I'd been splashed with enough gunk and/or the insides were getting "ripe", I'd wash my gear then use Nikwax wash-in on my outer layer. Like Ryan described the out sheds most, then my mid breathable/waterproof layer didn't need to work as hard and worked better. Loved the spoofed theme....

Ryan, to the extent of what I could find, it looks like Muc-Off discontinued that line of Protectant. Any recommendation on what to get in its place?

7:05 That's what I love most about it, I have the most layers of protection on and am usually nice and toasty warm while witnessing the shit storm around me. Feeling safe in an otherwise unsafe place is a nice feeling. Edit: also stoked to see you feature the Tdub near the end!

So, Muc-Off has discontinued their Fabric Spray. Any recommendations for a replacement? NikWax?

I can tell you NOT to use NikWax wash in on your textile pants, I am legitimately terrified that I'm going to slide right off my motorcycle.

I gave up all The rain stuff and got triple bondes Goretex riding gear from Rukka and that was that, never wet again, never damp behind just dry and comfy. Expensive as 😮 but it just works and now riding in rain is just fine no stress. No stop and Get rain suit on, it starts to rain fine, it becomes a downpour whatever. Great video thanks for sharing

Man I’ve watched almost all of your motorcycle videos about gear, bikes, and tips about maintaining and buying the best products for your bike but I don’t actually own or driven a motorcycle but I love your videos man keep up the good work! I’m hoping to get some motorcycle classes and maybe get my license. I’m hoping I also get my first bike this year! All because your videos showed me the love! And the awesomeness of riding!

take it to a car wash, select the hot wax spray, spray down your bikes metal parts. Anything too hot will burn off excess wax, rest will be protected from water and salt ;)

I love my DriDucks. They are comfortable, they breath, keeps me dry, and as altered durable. I added some reflective tape to the back of the jacket. On the pants a press on patch to protect the right leg from melting on the pipe. And opened up the bottom of the legs for easer boot access, I healed the cuts with duct tape.
