This area is free to visit. Look for Northern Defences on Google maps to find the entrance.

There's another 4" gun inside the rock itself that they recently did a bit of restoration work on. Hopefully this one gets the same treatment.

@13:20 that's a searchlight position. The lamp housing is on your right hand and obviously mounted on that turntable.

Was leaning toward searchlight. One of the 4" guns is virtually underneath this position as well so would make sense.

Thanks for the video. I made it as far as the ramp after Star chamber but was using my phone as a camera and torch, which meant standing in the dark to take photos. A bit creepy on my own! So now I have seen what I missed in your video.

Glad you enjoyed the video. It's an amazing place to explore. I had a headtorch as well as my phone but still pitch black in places! I dat & watched the planes land & take off for awhile as well.

Thought I'd seen virtually all the defences but must have missed this one. I think they are planning to tidy and make into an exhibit.
