Larry- When you chime in, it's always good...our reloading should be enjoyed for the pastime that it is...great point.

Simple solution for most equipment, mount reloading equipment (press/brass trimmer) on a 2x4 or wood block then use workbench vice to secure. I use this method for my Lee press for shot shell, Classic Turret Press Kit, and now the brass trimmer. Very secure and flexible approach to mounting/unmounting equipment. This was not my idea - I wish I could thank the individual who recommended it.

Vengenace Early - In agreement -The recognized order is to size and deprime first, then trim if necessary. Reason is 1) many trim collets use the empty primer pocket to help center the case 2) case stretching can occur in the sizing process especially if inside neck lubrication is not done. Then, after trim, clean primer pocket, uniform primer pockets and deburr flash holes if not already done, deburr and champfer case mouth, then prime cases - They are pronounced load ready...Best Regards...

Got the same one mounted to my bench. Works great.

Because of space limitations, my work bench is completely modular, I have 3 holes drilled in the table top and all of my reloading equipment is attached to 2x6s that have corresponding holes in them.

Nice job. I still use a regular Lee hand trimmer with individual guides to do each calibers length...even one for the .44...lol. Just sitting around provides me time to check and trim if necessary.

There are quite a few other pilots than the seven or so that come in the kit. They can be ordered from Lyman or MidwayUSA, and they cost just four or five bucks apiece.

Thank you for the post. Do you have a video on your bench setup? Like a little overhead shot of where everything is placed and why you place it that way. Kind of like describing your flow/philosophy of set up? If not, you'd be really cool if you could make one! ;) I'm brand new to reloading and I have the Lyman trimmer, hornady press, powder measure stand, etc... but just not sure where everything should be setup so that way I'm not crossing over myself.

Jason Keeling - Yes, I have videos on both of my reloading benches and the important factors of reloading bench design such as location, ergonomics, size, strength, stability, security, lighting, electrical, storage, ventilation, and computer (this is not in the bench videos, but is an additional consideration). Thanks for your comment and questions... Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to ya..!! FC

I always trim after I run my cases through the resizing die, I have seen others trim before they resize and that made no sense to me.

FC45 you right as rain with that setup I am using the Lyman cutting down 9mm Luger to 9 mm Makarov but the drill is vibrating not awful but still. Is disconcerting I have it on a board on top of my shop vise with another board keeping the drill level and also keep it wet with 3 and 1 oil

+Retiredin -- Cutting 1/25 of an inch off of 100 casings can get a little tiring - that's 4" of brass...Good reloadin' to ya... FC

been loving your videos, question for you, do you trim pistol brass like 38 special? i have the same trimmer you have, handed down to me. but most of the brass ive measured is less then the trim to length in the manual i have.

Hi Joe Spaz. I've been loving FC45 videos too. Most often you will never have to actually trim pistol brass. But I did think of an application that was driven by cost. With some of my 1851 Uberti replicas using 38 cal conversion cylinders, I have the need for three different case lengths. 38 SC (around 0.750 inches), 38 LC (around 0.900 inches) and 38 SPL (1.150 inches). These are the trim lengths that work best. Well, as it turns out, Midwayusa has all three cases in Starline. By far the least expensive case is qty is the 38 Spl. So if you love to trim, and need cases of varying lengths, one can sit and create the 38 SC and 38 LC and save between 2 to 5 cents a case. Yes, it may be easier just to buy the correct length to start with. But heck, some of us who are retired just love the challenge to save a few cents and have some trimming fun. *big smile* Have a great day.

Jeffrey Kelley - The Redding case trimmer is funny in that some reloaders love it and others hate it...I'll stay with my Lymans with the carbide cutters for now as I'm happy with them...But thanks for the recommendation for the Redding...Best Regards

very nice - another bar across the other end would stabilize even more...

ytmm9055 Thanks for your comment. I would definitely look into that but this has worked fine for many years. I suppose the old mount on a board and C - clamp it to your bench would work. But I just don't prefer C-clamping my presses down. Best Regards to ya

Screw it down.
@FortuneCookie45LC
@FortuneCookie45LC 9 жыл бұрын
Tom D. Nothing wrong with screwing it down - many do that. I'd certainly do that if the stability of my setup was inadequate for the job being done...When I trim, I trim a lot of cases - the electric drill works well with these with this setup - no glitches getting the job done. And, I can put the trimmers away when not in use. Don't like the idea of mounting to planks and C-clamping. And the trimmers don't fit the Lee Bench Plate. Have a great day...
