My K1600GT has been a revelation the longer I’ve owned it. Once you know it’s limits it ticks all the boxes for me. Although I do love to have a sports bike at the same time to ensure I’m not entirely giving up my remaining youth-dream. With a Remus system on it the sound is like an 80s F1 car. Gives it that extra bit of experience. Managed 3500 miles on it over 6 days a few summers ago in scorching weather down in Spain/Italy/South of France. Ate the miles every day in total comfort.

The K16B is a beauty. Love the entire engines styling, rear light styling and integrated floor boards. But this bike still needs backlit handlebar switches for night riding, a badly needed update to it’s entire dash area and a saddle that allows for a removable back rest like the Gold Wing. As well an stylish OEM removable rear pillion pad and rack system. BMW, a premium company, still hasn’t or doesn’t want to figured this stuff out. Great job here Mates!
@youwhatnow3 жыл бұрын
Great stuff. I wanted to buy a Goldwing Bagger with DCT but the panniers are too narrow for any kind of helmets. I found an ex-demo K1600B in new condition, saved a load of money and have never looked back. Full-face helmets fit in both panniers, 160 bhp, reverse, loads of gadgets, cruising and normal footrests, lightweight compared to the Goldwing and sits at 95mph all day with no effort. Both are amazing bikes.
@trucker-d41613 жыл бұрын
What’s the weight difference?
@youwhatnow3 жыл бұрын
@@trucker-d4161 The BMW K1600B is about 330KG and the Goldwing bagger is 357KG. But if you want to store a helmet on the bike you'll need the full-blown Goldwing Tour which is 379KG. Modern Goldwings since about 2018 have a really nice colour TFT dash with Apple Car Play whereas the BMW dash is old-style. With BMW (Garmin) Navigator 6 you won't get lost. The Goldwing Bagger is definitely better looking in my opinion but if you buy a K1600B you will have plenty of spare cash for a hair transplant and some new duds.
@trucker-d41613 жыл бұрын
@@youwhatnow well..... have all of my hair, have a gl1800, coming from sport bikes, and still do a lot of off road with my vstrom, just telling you , you talk like the rest of the guys who have never ridden one. @youwhatnow3 жыл бұрын
@@trucker-d4161 LoL Nice retaliation! I test rode a couple of Goldwing Tours, one with and one without DCT. Very impressive machines but as stated earlier I bought a K1600B instead. I've got a couple of other bikes and passed my test in 1977, so have owned a few others over the years. Still got quite a lot of hair but there was about a £10k difference between the K1600B with 1,000 miles on the clock and a comparable Goldwing Tour. I like having money more than saying goodbye to it, so took the cheapskate option. Never ridden a Vstrom but almost bought a GS after trying a few from Maidenhead Bahnstormer while my RnineT racer S was being serviced. Decided off-road wasn't my thing but respect to anyone who does it on a big bike. I bought a touring (well Bagger based on a tourer) bike because I like covering road miles and carrying stuff around. There is a bit of turbulence at 110+ which I think is due to the wide panniers. On balance, having big panniers is more useful to me than trying to keep up with sports bikes although after a few hours I reckon I will cover more miles than faster bikes due to 300 mile range tank and very little wind hitting the head and body to cause tiredness. Something I didn't hear mentioned in the 44Teeth video is the K1600B has quickshift Pro gears so you only need the clutch for stopping and starting. Changing up and down the gears once you're on the move without using the clutch actually feels smoother than the Goldwing, but you still need to use your left foot which isn't necessary on the DCT Hondas. Coming back to your question about weight I think DCT adds a few pounds above the normal weight but I dunno how much. Hope something I wrote was of some use and not all annoying! Cheers.
@trucker-d41613 жыл бұрын
@@youwhatnow 😂just having fun, the BMWs for me in my opinion has lost a bit on their dependability, and their parts and repairs are crazy high. One can’t argue the track record of the gold wing, but time will tell on the new 18 re-do . Not many dealers around here In Minnesota. I’ve driven the k1600, no complaints on the ride and motor, crazy power. I think the gold wing for me, seems a better fit, feels smaller, sport mode is very exciting. I think the BMW seems way to techy for me, but the gold wing is getting like that also.

I had a K1600 GT, and a set of Galfer HH pads sorted the brakes out quite well. I got rid of it cuz the clutch was wonky and had like 5mm of useful travel which made low speed riding a sketchy proposition, but there was no way to adjust the clutch, and I couldn't pick it up by myself. After my second tip over I decided it was time to get a lighter bike. But I miss that engine.

What an inspiration! 1800 miles in the middle of a British winter. Cap doffed guys. Sounded like real fun and slog in parts but who'd have thought those two whales would work over those cold long miles. Might not be optimal but there's something to be said for quiet roads and off-season hotel bookings? Makes me want to brush off the frost and get out there. Just one thing, guys. As someone from the northern reaches (Edinburgh), heated vests are highly recommended. Keeps the core warm and feeds a smug sense besting the elements. Great vid, great chat. See you in Vladivostok.

This is why I like my 2003 Goldwing. I bought it because I have had a wing in the past and my S1000RR isn't the best work or chores bike. The Goldwing is noticeably slower, but for being twice the weight it is still pretty agile. It will go through corners like a champ and feel completely planted. Not as fast as the S1000RR though. Funny thing is I prefer the S1000RR when there is water on ground. I know how much power that bike has and respect it. The Goldwing is so quite that you forget it has 120ftlbs of torque. I keep ending up going around 90 degree turns sideways.
