This is one of the best videos I've seen on proper skating technique...he's dead-on right in how to properly skate forward.

If u look at players like Taylor hall and Sidney crosby, their arm swing always crosses their mid-line. When u swing ur arms from side to side, it helps u push ur stride to a 45 degree angle, and it helps u develop a wide stride

@Commanderblutwurst If you cross the center line, then your glide foot is directly under your body. This will cause you to be on the outside edge of your glide leg, therefore putting you off balance.

@Commanderblutwurst You are correct. What he is teaching is good for runners, but not for skaters. Look at Mike Gartner or Martin St. Louis. They are the model for proper arm movement. Actually, they are models for all proper skating mechanics.

about that energy thing at 2:20 ... well maybe i am wrong but i think it is better to cross that center line, because if you do this, you use your core muscles / hip more and by this way you get more energy. sorry for my rusty english :-)

@flakesfrosted If they are learning, they should be learning proper technique. Feet should be apart for better balance. Stride width, and stride rate are more important than stride length.

Thats not right. You are supposed to push directly to the side. You go twice as far, try it.

2:20 not proper technique! Watch Hall, Stamkos, Tavares, Crosby etc... all have wide stance. Remember, you have to glide and battle for loose pucks! Oh yeah, these players all have one thing in common... #1 picks.
