In my Forza Motorsport 1 review retrospective, I look back at what made this original Xbox racing game special, how it compares with Gran Turismo 4 and if it can hold its own more than 15 years later.

What Forza 1 and 2 had that GT4 didn't were licenses from Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche, as well as cars taking damage. It's nothing now, but back then it was a big deal.

I really miss some aspects of the older Forzas. Really liked the old car unlocking system and without their stupid mod system a lot of difficulty options in F7 don't even give rewards anymore. Also would prefer a game where you just unlock vehicles to buy over being bombarded with freebes all the time (okay for multiplayer focussed racing that's kind of necessary). And damn do I miss that older Skyline racecar. R34 with lowered front is my favourite, so sad when those weren't included anymore alongside the older style Viper race version.

I just bought an original Xbox two months ago to replace mine that was destroyed in 2006. I've been playing this game this past month (on a 19 inch crt tv with S-Video cable) and I've had so much fun with it. Really brings back good memories. Thanks for the video!

Great video. Played Forza 1 on the OG Xbox as a child, stayed with the series since. Probably what got me into cars in the first place, loved the retrospective. I can still remember how exited I was when I finally got enough credits to buy the Koenigsegg CC8S, good times. Looking forward to FM8.

The OG Xbox was a beast! Weird that they stretched the menu to fill the screen. Should've just kept them 4:3.

Such a great console! I have a third one on the way to mod (transparent this time). The 4:3 thing I can understand, but with a softmod you can force 16:9 in most games and I prefer the lack of black borders.

The disc drive was dead and I didn't feel like putting in a bigger HD. It was already softmodded, so it wouldn't have been a huge deal. Oh well!

When I finally got an XBOX 360 for Christmas in 2010 the first game I played was Project Gotham Racing 3 and I still love it to this day as my favorite we needed more of it imo

Seems as if it’s shifted back into the GT favor. Forza is ok with the horizon series, but you can notice the laziness with things to where GT finally put their pants on and really pays attention to detail

Not me, as a auto enthusiast, sim racer and motor sports fan such casual complaints had no effect on. Also I use hood cam 50% of the time. They improved the standard cars in GT6 and rather have them not. The Honda City Turbo is one of my favorite Hondas ever and enjoyed in GT5 and 6.

I was excited for a second when I heard Coast 2 Coast is rare since I got it for my PS2, but I guess that doesn't apply to the PS2 version. I need to play through Forza 1, I loved the customization in that game and I was always jealous when I saw my friend play it on their Xbox. Later on I got my hands on Forza 4 and to this day it's pretty much my go-to racing game, it has aged really well and the audio in that game is fantastic which is honestly why I can't go back to older Gran Turismo games anymore, beefy car sounds are pretty much a requirement for me these days

For me it was Forza Motorsport 2 when i swapped from GT, still have the steel exclusive Forza 3 and 4 (still use the USB). For me Forza Motorsport 4 was the pinnacle with everything in the game and all unlockable by playing the game, DLC was developed after the game was released and not just held back to make more money...

And then they made 5 not as good and 6 / 7 horrible. 6 does have a banging soundtrack though. But the engine sounds and physics are so much worse, among a plethora of other problems and lack of replayability.

@@zackster1697 I think if I could, the S54 because it's usually closer to its quoted power output. But then it has a more limited redline. In reality it would probably be other factors that made my decision for me such as price, mileage, extras etc but I think on public roads it's not going to be a huge difference. Even if you drove both back to back. Just the Vanos issue to worry about on the S50 and both seem to be very oil thirsty. My 3.0 Bimmer (non M) really eats through the stuff. Here ends my Ted Talk lol.

Listening to A [sound]Track Called Classic was always my favorite part of NOT playing Gran Turismo, which I always played with music off because it was more akin to A Track Called Crap. Never owned an original Xbox but I do remember thinking back then how Forza 1 and 2 had tuning and customization options that no one else could touch. On a separate but related note, one of my fondest racing experiences for the time was the 2005 Need For Speed Most Wanted, a game that arguably held its value. At launch in the US it cost $60, and used Xbox copies at GameStop cost $40 in 2015. For a different thrill I recommend trying this one out as one of the best police pursuit style racers.

Yeah FM6 was the only respectable title out of the xone releases, but even then I still wouldn’t put it above the 360 releases

@@Arrozconchopsticks I did not enjoy 7's design. Forcing you to buy cars to progress every other race and the low pay outs was not good. The VIP scam and loot boxes only changed after player complaints. FM4 got pretty much it right, you can build and progress with ONE car for the most part.

I didn't get my 1st Xbox until 2018 when I got myself an Xbox one one S, I impressed enough with the Forza games available to play on the Xbox one, that I decided to get an original Xbox and a 360 a few months later. ......... I now have a series X as well so rocking all generations of Xbox.👍 Still have my ps1, 2, 3 and 4 and decided to put off getting a ps5 until after I get settled with a series X, and a part of that is down to me feeling that Forza has been the better series of games overall, and Sony have been lazy with the gran turismo series since GT4. At the time in isolation I thought GT4 was great and was fully used to the X button acceleration and square button braking, but things move on and how we play driving games on controllers changed with it, so the triggers are a big of why it's so much more enjoyable to playthe original Forza motorsport than GT4 is if you play them today.👍

I just dusted off my old modded xbox OG. It has al lot of racegames installed but I still find myself in the middle of the night playing Forza. Gran Turismo is a different kind of game. It's more arcade-like. Beyond level 30 in career mode Forza Motorsport is really extremely difficult and no other games have that

@@ATribeCalledCars In EDGE's feature about PGR3 in 2005 Bizarre Creation said Microsoft basically copied their entire team's layout and formed Turn 10, also many initial members of Turn 10 "studied" a lot of experiences from Bizarre Creation.

Great Job, lovely video. But I will call you out on one thing. The McLaren is is actually a BMW engine wise, and therefore the car is based around it and worked that way. So yes it does deserve to be under that manufacturer.

As much as i love Forza Motorsport 1 and Gran Turismo 4 (very much), i think that Enthusia Professiona Racing (ps2 game released around GT4 release date) is a better game that both of them, or rather is the one that i prefer. It has incredible, really awesome handling model (more sophisticated than FM and GT4), great car rooster, amazing graphics and style/atmosphere, and interesting campaing and systems. Overall it aims precisely at the same audience as GT4 and FM, and for me it's just brilliant... but it sold really bad and it killed the possibility for sequel (the reason being - GT4 was a massive premiere, and it completly overshadowed Enthusia). I still feel that my favourite game (overall) is Gran Turismo 2 on psx, but Enthusia is really REALLY high on my list. When it comes to Forza i love every single one i've played and can't decide which i like the most (havent only played 5th and 6th game) - but i can't enjoy any Forza Horizon (i've tried really hard, with FH1, FH2 and FH4 to no avail), even though i like arcade racing games too.

Forza Motorsport 1 is the best Forza not because it was the first Forza, but because the driving felt pure and accurately real. This is not a game. This is a Teacher telling you how it is and what it will be like when you race in real life. All the other future Forza games never felt the same since.

@@ATribeCalledCars Check videos on KZbin where people uploaded the music from the game, none of them even have "Music in this video" listed in the description by KZbin. Other people who reviewed the game like ColourShed had the music playing in the backround. Thats just how it is with OST music I guess, most of them are not likely to get copyright claims (there are probably exceptions), its specifically made for the game, which makes it even more special.

@@Titas21 The owner can always kick up a fuss, it's whether anyone is currently watching or inclined to act. I avoid using music except for paid commercial music because sometimes ownership changes and then you can see a claim. It's happened to me on a car review - now I have this jarring clip with the wrong music and a bad edit lol.
