Actually this fossil pit is near the lake built by PP&L For cooling their "COAL" power plant. The nuclear plant is near Berwick about 45 minutes+- from the Montour preserve. When I lived in nearby Bloomsburg I would visit the Montour Preserve every weekend. Thank you for uploading this video

Nice find on the horn coral! My gf and I went last year and found some trilobites in almost the same spot. They are my favorite fossils but it seems like you find a thousand brachiopods for every piece of trilobite...Jasper Burns has some good books but he doesn't cover Pa like Wva. Thank you for all your videos I'm sure it's a pain lugging that camcorder around!

Devonian period fossils. I spent a lot of time there years ago. But it seems after a while you find the same kind of fossils. I found some real small ones so you got to look good. Pa.has mostly Devonian and Pennsylvania period fossils. I found some fossils of tree roots from the Pennsylvanian period above Nanticoke. There were tons of fossils from that age in n.e. Pa until they flattened out the coal banks. Erosion took care of the other age fossils in Pa. Only Dinosaur tracks near Philadelphia. Swatara had some great starfish fossils until they moved the spot into the park. Some are worth a good buck.

2 years later but I am looking for some good fossil hunting places in PA (or NJ, MD, etc.), you seem pretty knowledgeable, any hidden spots you know about?

Thanks for a great video. I'm planning my first trip there later this week. Now I know what to expect. I need to get a small pry bar to add to my kit. I'm bringing gloves, safety glasses, rock hammer, a chisel/with hammer and magnifying glass.

sometimes it take 3 or 5 hours for me to find something complete and nice , be patient . with that type of rock if its wet and sun is setting youll see the fossils easier.go back on a rainy day really.

Devonian Period. About 420 to 360 Ma. My guess is early to mid Devonian and that would put it at 420 to about 380 Ma.

kankakkee river in Illinois I have a bunch of trilobites and ceplopods from there look by rivers connected to creak beds but the creek needs labs of stone in it.

I was there the other day and met a friend of yours. I also came up with a huge one of these. It has to be some sort of coral. I'm still trying to find out. Nothing in the education center matched it. LMK if you ever found out. Happy Hunting.

Is it still really common to actually find fossils there? I've been wanting to go but it's about a 2 hour drive for me so it would be a waste to go and not even find anything

You have to work to find them here, they are usually not just laying around.
