Fossil Preparation - Merycoidodon culbertsonii Oreodont 30 million years ago

This is the short timelapse video of the preparation of a fossilised skull of an extinct Merycoidodon culbersonii. This herbivourous mammal, known as an Oreodont, lived during the Oligocene (30 million years ago) and was found in the Brule formation of South Dakota. This was prepped using pneumatic air tools in particular the Paleotool ME-9100 (for removing the bulk matrix) and the ZoicPalaeotech Microraptor (for finer detail around the teeth).

Thanks!! This was a fun prep job. Oreodonts are great to practice fossil prep skills as they are very abundant fossils.
