Fossiliferous

Fossiliferous

Күн бұрын

It's day 1 of a Fossiliferous trip to La France. On the way there we decide to stop in at Folkestone to have a look at the 103 million year old gault clay, famous for its beautiful pyrite fossils complete with their iridescent nacre shells. The gault clay was deposited in a calm deep water environment during the Albion stage of the Lower Cretaceous.

I do love the ammonites from the Gault Clay, though I don't find identification the easiest - still, I'm not going to be satisfied with Something-hoplites so I do persist. Gaultammonite is a nice resource.

There is a great book available by Philip Hadland. Fossils of Folkestone, Kent. It makes the job much easier and it's great quality publication.
