Available to order from Amazon:
amzn.to/1oADEim
Since the start of this millennium, Mick Foster and Tony Allen have sold almost 1.5 MILLION albums in the UK and with the release of "Gold & Silver Days" - they are on course to extend their run of success in the UK Artist Albums Chart, which stretches back to 1983 but which was preceded by their first appearance on Top of The Pops in April 1982. "Gold & Silver Days" is Foster & Allen's first all new album for a decade, featuring 20 new recordings.
Also featured on the album are two duets with THE LONDON IRISH PENSIONERS CHOIR; 'Gold & Silver Days' and the Rita MacNeil classic, 'Working Man'. The London Irish Pensioners Choir was founded in 2005 by Sally Mulready, a member of the Irish Council of State. Backed by a fully comprehensive national PR campaign, "Gold & Silver Days" will be an essential gift purchase.

My father was a miner, born in 1901, being the eldest, he had to go down the mines to help support the family at the age of 13 years! At the age of 47 years, he had to leave with the dreaded pneumoconiosis and suffered for the rest of his life. I was born in 1934 in a family of 3, and always so proud of him. This song brings back my childhood in a mining family, of which I am proud.

For anyone who's family we're connected to the coalmines, this song really tugs at the emotions. My two Grandfather's were killed down the mines and my father worked in them from 14yrs of age. When he retired early at 60, he had aged before his time. There was little he could after retiring, the pits had took all his strength.

This is a song written by the late Rita MacNeil of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. Cape Breton has had coal mines since it was French colony n the 1700's. The mines are gone now for the most part but they are part of the culture and there have always been many miners choruses.

What's with a song about men working underground being sung in the first person by a woman? I'm not trying to be a dick, I just don't understand a song that's written from a male's viewpoint being sung by a woman.

The best version of this great song is by the woman who wrote it and sang it. Rita MacNeil from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia Canada is this singer-songwriter. @@ralphellison8962 Hi, this a Canadian song, written by the late, great Rita MacNeil, from Big Pond, Cape Breton, Island, Nova Scotia, Canada. She was a well-known Canadian singer, who was famous for the beautiful, dark voice, her song-writing skills and her warm personality.
