Stalagmites vs stalactites: an easy way to remember is the 'c' in stalactites is for 'ceiling' as in they drop down from the ceiling, and the 'g' in stalagmites is for 'ground' as in they rise up from the ground.

Years ago I was painting a house and the owner came out to chat with us while we had lunch and I took out a Mars bar for dessert and the home owner told me a story about when he was in a bomber (he a gunner) over Europe making the run back to England during WWII he recalled pulling a Mars bar from his kit; his hands were so cold he had difficulty getting it unwrapped, and it so near frozen that he essentially sucked on it like a popsicle. "Best thing he'd ever eat," he said. The way you cuddled with that Mars bar reminded me of that story. Another great photography video and also, as usual, some of the best entertainment on KZbin. Thanks.

I’m currently playing catch up and have got this far so far. Chasing Awe has just been ordered to help me with some inspiration. Like you, I’m also an escapee of the old country and now live in the Middle of Nowhere, Canada. I’m happier behind the camera, shooting dogs or landscapes as I’ve got a face like an angry beaver after being run over and it tends to scare small children and granny’s.

Stalactite vs stalagmite - easy to remember. Stalagmite has letter "g" like "ground" so the are on a ground (formed on a floor of a cave). So stalactite is the other one - hanging from cave's ceiling - note stalactite has letter "c" like ceiling. Simple and easy to remember :-)

This may be one of my favorite edits you have put together. I had an outing recently where the weather looked like it would produce a spectacular sunset but nothing was coming together. Clouds were blocking the sun and the light was meek. Just as I had completely packed up to leave, the clouds parted and produced some impressive pinks and purples to the east. Luckily I was able to rush out and grab the shot I wanted. Lesson learned, don't let a day full of duds kill your creativity. A little bit of patience and perseverance can grant the ultimate reward. I got my book yesterday, and it is just as incredible as I had hoped it would be. Great work Gavin.

I remembered from a cave tour many decades ago: stalagmites - g for ground and stalactites - c for ceiling. I sometimes use the self timer for close-up / macro because when I'm in a twisted pretzel position I use the self timer as a way to prepare my breathing (or rather lack of) before the shutter releases.
