@@WHlSKYtx in 1998 when Sosa and McGwire were having that home run race and being heralded as the saviors of baseball (after the 1994 strike) Barry sort of went unnoticed, kind of disrespected. that year Barry became the only member of the 400 home run and 400 stolen base club, but nobody paid attention. Everybody knew players were juicing, and at the time the commissioner was looking the other way. It was probably around this time he at least started thinking about it. He also very nearly over .400 again twice in his career had over 500 home runs and his other stats were pretty damned good. He wasn't much a fielder. Now contrast the fact he left Baseball during his peak TWICE, first time to join the US Airforce in World War 2 - he became an Airforce Captain, had at least 5 verified kills making him an Ace pilot and then he did it again in Korea. He hit something like.. .388 at age 39? And you want to want to believe Barry Bands is a better hitter? Give me a break.
