Mexico gets a big boost after this WBC. The President is a life-long Baseball fan, he's beloved in Mexico like no other, and had been touting Baseball even before this tournament. There's some Baseball synergy going on in Mexico right now. Mexico is great at Boxing, Mexico wants to be great at Football-Soccer, and Baseball is somewhere in between... but there is lots of room for growth.

@David I live in a Border town San Diego and when the Potros were in Tijuana the fans enjoyed their games like it was a festival. Win or lose they got their money's worth.

Kuriyama said Darvish was not in his best condition as he was spending his time educating the other pitchers about the MLB players during the preparation camp.

Darvish was with the Team Japan from their camp 2 weeks earlier than the other MLB players. Darvish was completely immersed in preparation of the very young Japanese pitching team. He really had no time to train! Yu was working on making all the player to come together as a team and not talented players gathered together for WBC. Manager Kuriyama said, it should be called “Team Darvish” rather than Team Kuriyama.

I think it's also just that the USA hitters have studied his game before, whereas they might be way less used to a pitcher that's still pitching in Japan. Schwarber obviously has his number still from the 2022 NLCS

I saw, Trout and Shohei prove to his Angel teammates, that, they are serious, they can do it, why not the red warriors, I mean, the Angels join the blast. The two oughtta gather all teammates and staffs, and make speeches about what's in their heads. Enthusiasm sometimes can overpower predictions, example Japan, next up the Angels, if they can pump up.

Yes, and Kuriyama also said Yu did not have his good stuff this tournament as shown in the pool round. Also it seems there were some considerations for Yu and Shohei since they had been announced for being the opening game pitcher.

WBC ＝ WORLD CUP WORLD SERIES ＝ CLUB WORLD CUP The current World Series should be renamed the USA Series. A true World Series should be like the Club World Cup, where the number one teams from each continent compete in a tournament. Of course, it is better to change the venue every year.
