ok we dont have to downplay Soto like that to prop up Shohei the thing i hate the most in these Soto contract discussions is when they downplay Soto and just straight up lying. I think everyone understands and agrees that this is an overpay, a massive one even you can argue, but you gotta do what you gotta do if you really want to land the top free agent in the market. Shohei is Shohei. Possibly the greatest player we will ever see, and possibly on of the greatest contract ever if we are being honest. But that doesn't mean Soto is somehow an average player just because he got paid bigtime. I always facepalm whenever i see people commenting like "yeah Soto is just a good hitter, he cant even defend well". People love to oversimplify things man

Finally a real one! Speaking facts! Generation talent. yeah generational alright, first 26 year old player who hasn't hit his prime yet and is already in decline in every other tool other then hitting or hitting for power, he is generational alright, most players are in decline past 30' mid 30's not mid 20's like Soto. Crazy and scary.

If this is true, then I wonder if his age (that ppl talk about) could be older than he says and therefore explain any decline in stats. Time will tell.
@gabrielv.264721 күн бұрын
@LL-tc1re according to baseball America, and most MLB sovouts/scouting reports, Soto avg speed, avg glove, avg range, avg arm, elite hitter, elite power bat, elite eye at the plate, elite discipline, can work the counts, give him that. Give me Tucker or a Othani, or an Acuna, or a Judge or a Betts over Soto. All those I just mentioned are way better players both defensivly and offensively then Soto Othani he can pitch thoough so he is in his own category, for 800 million dollars? No thank you. Give me 800 million and I'm spreading it around, that's like 3-4 all star for that price. I wouldn't have given Soto no more then 550-maybe 600. No thank you

@gabrielv.264720 күн бұрын
@melvinhidalgo1 since you have no clue offensivy no, everything else yes. Us to be a 5 tool player. Had a cannon for an arm, was faster, great glove, had range. Not anymore. That's what the numbers show, you just look at his offensive numbers lol. I look at the whole body of work. You gotta play the field not just hit. He is only 26 hasn't entered his prime yet and is declining. Look at his defensive stats all of em not just cherry pick to make your point. Not counting 2023 and 2024 because those where bounce back defense, especially the 2024 season. But it's Yankee stadium, less room to cover ground, make throws to each bag and etc especially in right field with that short porch.
@LL-tc1re20 күн бұрын
@@gabrielv.2647 Agreed, those other players you named are better. I suspect Soto wasn’t giving it his all on his defense and running as to avoid injury on contract year or he wouldnt have gotten such a great contract. A few balls I thought he should have made a play, or closer to it, in the world series, but it’s just me giving benefit of the doubt. Don’t remember him trying many diving catch or sliding catch, but didn’t watch a lot of his games. I do remember his forearm was bothering him for a bit, and he may have also slid into the left field wall chasing a ball whoch may have scared him. Now that he has a guaranteed long term contract, let’s see if he improves and gives 100% effort on everything. An article out there during his pre-MLB career did mention from his previous coach that he had other players have more tools than Soto, but Soto’s hitting was better, so maybe he is “just” an elite hitter.
