The US 1st Division trained in that area in 1942. I suspect the mines may be fox holes.

@@camcarteradventures yes, could be as not the usual type of ground one would search for gold. That is very cool though 😎 Thanks Cam 👍

There's a screening plant and other machinery down in the lake from when they were building the dam, they couldn't get it all out in time when the '74 floods came, and the concrete wall was still green when it started to fill that's why there's so many cracks in the wall, they even thought they were going to loose part of it, And there's so much rock in the base of it because it would settle in the base. My old boss was on site there during it's building. There was a lot of quarry work going on in that area as well but I think Alan said it was mainly in the river.

We were up there last weekend looking for the old rifle range. There used to be a farm house in the middle of where the 4 excavations are. There are several old dump sites there from the 1950s. Also that metal contraption is an old Cultivator, that would have been towed behind a tractor.

Yes there was so much activity during the war all around that area, Strathpine, Lawnton, Petrie, and Samford, Dayboro, and even along Narangba Road had a Army base / stores, they buried most of the army stuff when they thought Japan would come dome this far, people had found army stuff buried in their yards including a couple of vehicles, but now has house built all over it, that one was across from where Torrens road come out onto Narangba road, there was also an under ground bunker in that area. The Win's family even let the USA Army use a large area for a camp/ base just outside of Dayboro on Samford road, there was so much going on during the war it's been lot to time or covered up for what ever reason, oh and so much mining as well
