What a whizz, way more than your guess and payed for the unit 😊 We have a coinstar in our local supermarket and you have to pay 10% of your total but it is still better than taking the money to a bank as the charges are crazy!!! Well done Renee 😊

Just a note. If you join a credit union, they might do as mine does and have a coin counter in the lobby that you can directly deposit into your account for little or no fee.

Agreed, I also think that Coin Star is something like the "fast food" of coin cashing and a perfect way for smaller amounts. So, besides the processing fee, you made $ 136,15 net profit just from the change of this Led Zeppelin locker. I’m still trying to decide on what I want on any “merchandise” 😬 It’s difficult to do because while I find something/design something that I think looks good, it becomes complicated when that transfers into being printed, whether it is in color or black/white. Always check the coin return when you're done using a Coinstar or similar machine. They usually kick back coins with silver content and 1943 steel pennies because the machines check the metallurgic content of the coins and silver gets rejected.

I find to help me remember units, cleanouts, & even trash picks, it’s easier to give them a name associated with what I found. Like there’s the “Hot Dog House” cleanout, the “Pyrex” unit where we bought the unit based on seeing a single Pyrex bowl, and now we have the “Led Zeppelin” unit!

Can't knock a unit that pays for itself in cash! I remember rolling coins. I would gladly pay to avoid that. Did not know about CoinStar before this. I keep an empty 5lb honey jar that I put my loose change in. When it’s full, I usually cash it in but over the last months I put some quarters in my purse & pay using change at self-checkouts. Of course I’m not paying for my entire grocery bill in change, that would cause a major back-up in line! 😆 Are you staying home for the holiday or traveling?

We are staying here. My MIL’s family uses Thanksgiving as their annual reunion. They are from the Siler City area originally. We hosted for many years - as high as 48 once - but the numbers have thinned with marriages and funerals. We’ve also passed the torch to a cousin with a much better house and yard for entertaining. I saved my change tips one entire summer. I rolled the $750 quarters and nearly $150 in dimes thinking I would avoid the fees by rolling those. But, come to find out my bank had a coin counting machine and if you were a member of that bank, there were no fees at all. So, I took the rolled quarters & dimes to the teller thinking they would just take those as is, but I was told to just put it in the machine along with the other change I had. I Put all the change in, including unrolling all the quarters and dimes, then, the thing spit out a receipt for a little over $600 when it was all said and done. I immediately told the tellers of this bare minimum $300 value discrepancy and even talked with the manager, but basically I got a call the next day from that manager telling me that "No, there wasn't any miscount all was perfectly accounted for." I even made a better business case but that quickly ended with the same result. It still makes me upset when I think about it to this day.

I have a Schools Credit Union Account and they have a coin machine right in the Bank and there is NO CHARGE for using it. Their policy is that they don't even take the rolled coins. I have found rolls in the past. You have to unwrap them and put them thru the machine

Great! The less I gift/pay an institution for my $, the better. I always roll my coins and take to the bank. They don't require my account &/or name on each roll, but I've had accounts in my previous state that did require that info. No biggee. Love that it is already snowing in the lowlands for your area. Jug O’ Money lol. Another way you could cash in the coins , take some rolls to a retail store , and ask them if they need any change . The answer is usually yes . Later on in the day is the best time .

Bummer that they didn't offer Amazon, the one in my area does. You should have checked the quarters for a W mint mark though.. I love the coinstars by me, lazy people leave the reject tray full, coinstar spits out all silver coins, my collection is growing. Congrats on a profit already!

Stop & Shop (giant) usually have the option for Amazon gift card. Walmart coinstars don't (around me) Lowes and HD gift cards will be eventually used

Our banks have to take coins and cash deposits. When I had my retail store, I just brought all our cash and coins to the deposit place and it all got banked using the automat in the entry way and it was open longer hours than the bank itself. No fees. It made reconciling the bank statement easier. I didn't like doing the bank deposits alone, but my business partners were arseholes and had me do all the book keeping for free.

As I have become thrifty along with being lazy (with change) you may do well for yourself to roll the quarters on your own and you would have caught the $1 coin as well. They represented $96.25 of your total and approx. $13 in processing fees so let them do the work on the smaller coins but roll those quarters! Much love and have a great Thanksgiving.

A trick I learned on another channel is when you pay at a self checkout there is a place to pay with your change. Use that no charge, yeah you do have to carry around the change however a little here and a little there all helps. Keeping more for you!
