I was going to post this. Local funeral home to me has rows upon rows of ashes going back decades. Some people just dont bother to collect them and he has an obligation to hold onto them until someone collects.

Lots of people don't have the money to pay the ridiculous cost of a funeral or cremation. If you claim the ashes, you are now responsible for the bill. And they will come after you for the money.

I worked at a cemetery back in the late 80s and we had 3 cremated bodies in the closet the oldest one had been there since 1921 the families never paid for the Cremations or claimed the bodies. they never paid for the urn so they were left in the Box. State law prohibited the funeral home are the cemetery from doing anything with the remains so they remained in limbo until someone steps forward from the family and pays to have them interned. Odds are they're going to stay in those boxes in that closet as long as that structure is standing. I dunno the cemetery has expanded since I work there and that building is no longer being used. It's being maintained but not used.

It's sad as hell, but unfortunately way too common with funeral homes. People's family move away and can't be contacted, or they possibly outlived their family, among other things, so there's really no next of kin to release the remains to. There's a funeal home close to where I live that has the unclaimed cremated remains of over 300 people, and they're begging for help to find these people's families or loved ones.

@@waynebender7720 my mom was cremated. The "box" they used to put her in to be cremated, just the flipping box was $300, that didn't include the cost of the actual cremation process and the urn. So, yeah those people paid good money to have a service performed and who knows what they got back instead of their loved one. I used to work at a facility ran by our local police department and one day a woman came in with a tiny urn for an officer to look at. The lady came to terms with the death her baby after about a year or 2 and decided to open the urn. What she found did not look like human ashes to her. So she wanted an officer to look an give their opinion. It turned out to not be human remains. It was like that woman lost her baby all over again and there was no getting it back. It was so sad. I was glad in that moment that I was not the one that had to tell that mother, that was not her baby's remains. 😢

I can't believe that after an investigation they overlooked those cremated remains. It's illegal bro! You need to inform the proper authorities about it. They have to be returned to loved ones. The funeral home down the street from me had a contract with the city to handle all the indigent bodies, and they just stuffed them into closets. Most weren't discovered until the local news reporters investigated and all those bodies turned up on live TV. There were even some bodies in the hearse.

How much more disrespectful could this explore have been? How could anyone be so cold hearted and cruel? It would hurt my heart so bad if any of those were my family member. 💔😓💔 They also took that certificate out of that box of ashes and never put it back. The person’s identity could be in that envelope, now, it could get blown around in the wind, fall on the floor and be thrown away. Unimaginable, yet we know it’s true this happened. My heart sank seeing the images of the cremated remains left behind and the photographs of the deceased. Thank you for doing this video and posting it. I pray for those individuals who were neglected in death that their memories are blessed. Hopefully videos like this out there will open eyes for individuals in the industry, should their employers be violating the deceased and laws. Most funeral homes have a collection of unclaimed ashes. Clearly this woman engaged in improper and illegal behavior, but for future Funeral Home explores, please keep in mind that unclaimed cremated remains is an incredibly common problem that nearly all funeral homes face. Some people pay for cheap direct cremation with no service and never come back.

Well ...the families didn't follow up on getting the remains of their loved one,cremated or actual burial. Also the funeral home will hold onto the ashes till payment was made. Sad but true!

I work in a funeral place in England and you certainly can't hold onto ashes until payment! A lot of people don't pay for funerals whether they collect their relative or not

Hi Robb, Hi Josh, Hi Guys. There should be a serial number on that box that can be used to trace the cremated persons to their families. I found that out at Kern Valley Funeral Home and Chapel. That’s who handled my Mom’s preparation and cremation for my family & I. My family & I would’ve flipped out too, had our Mom been mistreated and disrespected like those other people were.

This is true but, for some people those last little bit of remains of the one they loved is a piece they can't bear to part with yet. I for one can understand that. It's hard sometimes to let go until your heart is fully ready.

It's situations like this is why I gave strict instructions to my kids that yes, I want to be cremated BUT, as hard as it may be for them, I want them to be present and watch the whole process just to make sure it's me they're getting back. Keep around if you must. Don't spend a lot on a freaking urn, just put my ashes in a Ziploc bag or glass jar leftover from spaghetti night lol when you're ready to say goodbye just dump me where there's a lot of flowers, bc I love flowers lol let me do one last good deed and fertilize some flowers lol

I worked in the funeral industry from 1992-1994. Most crematoriums will not allow families to view the entire process. If, for religious reasons, a family wants to view the body entering the retort, then they may see that, however, they will most likely be asked to leave after. Many crematoriums are just not set up for the public to enter.

The furniture is super tacky for a funeral home. She should have brown leather or caramel in color. You can tell it was just run down while in operation; which would make me suspicious to do business with them. If they don't care about appearance then what else do they not care about? Are you going to contact the families on the boxes? Not that you have to, I'm just wondering.

All the earmarks of a black owned 'funeral business' run amok. Professional funeral establishments don't handle their business like this. It looks as though whoever ran this dump just stopped giving a damn & abandoned it. Very sad for the families of loved ones whose ashes where simply ignored and left there.

I thought the same thing. Zebra striped furniture and a high heel shoe chair in the “parlor.” And what’s with the stuffed tigers everywhere? It’s a funeral home not a child’s bedroom! The chapel had one rinky dink podium and a window unit and those tacky old doctors office chairs from the 80’s. Wood paneling everywhere! It was awful! Clearly not a place I would feel comfortable using to handle the final arrangements of a loved one. I understand that funerals are expensive. It cost me 8k to lay my father to rest. But I would have never let an establishment like that handle the final arrangements. Clearly the owner took no pride in her property or business so why would she take care in the way she handled People’s deceased loved ones? Truly awful!

J. Whiteoak hit the nail on the head! The casket would have been taken as part of the evidence. I know this as I have been apart of a homicide investigation. I was present although 300’ away from where the murder was committed. And was one of the first people out looking for the victim. Never wish to ever deal with that again.
