I used one of those hay rakes when I was a kid in the mid 60s. You’d sit on a metal seat and use a foot pedal to lift the prongs up when they got full. You’d try to make a row of hay so you could run the bailer straight down the field.

Nice to see that ole ford truck , my father had one very similar. Brought back good memories of trips with him taking us kids on many adventures! When the truck was sold for scrap many years after he had passed I cut the side panels out that had his name painted on them with the town we once lived in . Thanks Wiley! That VIN decodes to an F100, 302 as you guessed, Built in Ontario Canada, Built in March of 1972. The VIN doesn't include transmission back then. I have in my hands, the original title to a 1972 Ford F100 long box! However I've only ever owned the box as it's been turned into a trailer that I purchased from the original owner. When I got it a decade ago it still had a working tailgate and factory taillights! The tailgate has since rusted off. Now that JD 420 that was a popular machine. My Uncle owned one with a loader that had a trip bucket, I spent a fair amount of time on that tractor.

Thanks for another great video Wiley and Jacob. It was interesting and enjoyable to watch. That was a walk thru history that is for sure. Was an old log saw mill back many years ago. It is a shame to let it all go to dust. I just don’t understand why they let the vegetation take it over instead of at least trying to save some of that for history sake. Seems like most of it is beyond saving now. That is a shame. Don’t know about that old pickup Wiley. Don’t believe there is much left of it. Cab area is trashed. I know you will try the motor but may not respond to you. Will be anxious to see how it comes out. Thanks for showing us around. Lots of history there. You and Jacob take care. The Iowa farm boy. Ive snaked logs a little over a foot threw , down out of the mountains with a comealong , a 1/4 inch chain about 15 foot , a 1/2 inch rope about 20 foot , a 6 foot slate bar and man power by myself . That was a hay rake , years ago we had one rigged to pull behind a ford tractor 600-800 and a piece of rope tied around the hay rake lever , when the rake got full you pulled the lever the rake would raise and dump a pile of hay , come back down and start raking again (it worked the same way if a horse was pulling the rake) . Then we pulled the hay bailer to each pile of hay and feed the bailer using pitch forks . That barrel manual hand pump sticking up out of the tank beside the pickup , thats what we used to prime diesel engines , with a rubber hose , no fitting on the end , remove the fuel supply line from the fuel tank , or where ever before the pump or injectors , force it into the rubber and a heater hose clamp or what ever , it doesnt take that much pressure to prime , you get the idea , once you get the engine running using the pump , shut it off and hook it up to the fuel supply . We used the push - pull and crank type manual pumps to prime .

Hello Wily, The AM radio that would have been in that truck was a “Philco” and I think that engine would have been a 302 cubic inch with probably a C4 automatic transmission. My dad bought it brand new 1972 F-100 truck with the Explorer trim package which that should be at the rear of each bedside what trim package the truck is that you are going to start up. One weird fact about those trucks around 1970-1972 especially was that the rear differential was slightly narrower than the front end which caused a good number of those trucks to be totaled due to that fact.

@TheIronDuke502
@TheIronDuke502 15 күн бұрын
@@DontbeWily The Custom was usually the “Plain Jane” work truck version with very few options and the Explorer was the mid-grade version with usually the AM Philco radio while the Ranger was the top of the line truck version offered by Ford that every option offered by Ford was subject to be on. We had more than a few of the Ford 302 engines in different vehicles that we owned and they were a very dependable engine and were probably the absolute best engines for starting up in cold weather. Being that 302 engine had sat idle for quite a while, I would probably recommend that you remove the spark plugs and put some sort of oil in each cylinder. Believe it or not, The 32:1 TruFuel is really good to pour into the carburetor which also lubes everything up within the carburetor as well as serving as a fuel source. Good Luck with bringing the Ford truck back to life again, Wily.

My late dads family all 7 brothers and most of the nephews were in the carpentry business and my uncle Joe had a saw mill which was first started by my dads dad in the late 20's or 30's and stayed in business until the early 90's when uncle Joe passed my cousin Hal ran it part time for awhile and eventually shut down it was powered by a steam engine at the beginning then it was swapped over to a case gas engine like in this video and i think in the late 70's it went to a 3-53 Detroit and that powered it until it finally closed Uncle Joe was in his late 70's when he passed had 7 heart attacks and up until the day before he passed he was at the saw mill at 5 am monday thru Saturday..with a pot pf coffee brewing on the wood stove

Wily, you have a good thing going here, so much old IRON, and desire to see it be brought back to life. This is REAL America in her glory. We must reelect TRUMP to keep this sort of wonderful activity alive. The left could care less about you and I.
