I'm not big on vlogs, honestly yours are some of the only one I watch. As far as artistic value goes, I feel that vlogs are important in this new form of media digestion because it helps people understand that they are just one person in this huge world, and that there are other things to be passionate about other than just yourself. For me it makes me think about how my life compares and where I would like to be. They definitely aren't this profound source of media but they are good to keep you thinking about other people and how life can be experienced in so many different ways depending on who you are, how you feel, and ultimately how you chose to experience it.

I know Casey has cited Werner Herzog, Stanley Kubrick, Malcolm X, and a few others as inspirations/influences but I'm always surprised by how little he mentions Tom Sachs, who seems to have had the heaviest influence on Casey's visual aesthetic/style (though not necessarily the vlogs). If you’ve seen any of Sachs’ videos I think the similarities are clear, but that combined with Casey working for him from at least 2001-2004, collaborating with him as late as 2010, Sachs’ apparent influence on The Neistat Brothers show as well as their studio setup (see knolling) which continues into Casey’s first KZbin videos, makes the influence seem pretty significant if not ubiquitous. I’m not trying to call Casey out, I’m obviously a huge fan, I guess I’m just confused after having recently re-watched all of Sachs’ videos, The Neistat Brothers, and some of Casey’s earlier KZbin videos, recognizing a clear line of aesthetic influence, then consistently hearing Casey discuss his content or the development of his style without any reference to it - or worse, calling people out for being too transparent with their influences. I should also say that, despite whatever influences, both The Neistat Brothers and Casey’s solo work have their own, solid, developed voice and vision and deserve all the respect they get and more - I just think Sachs deserves an occasional mention too.

When you talked about failing and giving up, I almost wanted to cry because I have been fighting with my "practical" mind, debating on if I should continue traveling down the road to becoming a music manager or giving up and becoming a child psychologist. I feel like I failed my past, child self who dreamed of becoming a music manager and touring the world. When did I become the girl who needs to put a socially acceptable job at the top of her priority list? As if security will bring me happiness. In contrast to pursuing my life long dream.
