The tight mesh at the back of this vent is important to keep out among other things, termite swarmers, which are the size of large ants. These are likely the smallest thing you want to keep out. Though if you live in Australia or somewhere with really bad termites, you may want to look into the industrial strength version of the mesh (See Termimesh).

Would it be possible to stucco over louvered vents? I have a bunch of louvered vents installed and I have the brown coat of stucco completed. I've since changed directions with the crawl space and want to encapsulate it and block off the vents. Do you know of a way to stucco over the louvered vents so I can have a clean look when they do the color coat? I could then spray foam the inside of the vent to keep capillary action from wicking water from wet stucco inside.

Good morning Luke dude, below is a video that shows you how to stucco over a vent, often I'll smash the center first it the vent is too flush with the wall. if your still not certain how to, it's bestto remove and stucco as typically done. Thanks for the reply. I searched high and low for a video on this before hitting you up in the comments. Google's algorithm didn't pick it up, I guess. I have a question about it, but I'll ask in that video's thread.

Good Morning Luke dude, if you house is still in the plastering phase, I'd have the guys remove the vents and lath over them, if a fella is on the ball it will take about 15 minutes per vent. happy holidays Live long and plaster Kirk and Jason Giordano plastering tips

Kirk, I have a wooden louver in my "attic" space. We have some bad rain and the window, under the window and garage ceiling was compromised. What can we do to prevent this? Fix this? The builder said they won't do anything.

Howdy Rachel, the only time rain will get through a louvered vent is when the winds are high with the rains. you can cover this vent during the winter or extend the loverlers to deal with the high winds and rains as this can force all rain water upwards.
