I use flightnumbers as a loose guide for what the manufacturer intended the flight to be, mostly in comparison to their own line up (or to signal what kind of disc it is similar to, ”this is our destroyer” being the most common). When you add different plastics into the mix that obviously makes it more unspecific. But it gives you a general idea, that you can apply to your own knowledge of stability differences in a manufacturers different plastics.

The flight numbers would make more sense to me if they used a more objective method of arriving at them (I am currently unaware of how they arrive at the flight numbers. They seem subjective/arbitrary because they fly differently for people). If they used a specific arm speed/rpm’s/angle of release/nose angle to arrive at them, that would make more sense to me.

Forehand dominant player here. I have never been able to throw any disc further on a hyzer flip than I can throw my champion wraith or destroyer on an anny flex. Even with the s turn, it still is further by a decent amount. Hyzer flips are for tunnel shots but if I want to bomb, I’m throwing a flex.

Heavier discs are usually better for forehands since they correct OAT faster which forehands tend to have more of. For a while the distance record on backhands was with a low 150g disc and forehand was mid/upper 160s.
@Gauchograd999 ай бұрын
When it comes to the weight question, watch Eagle with a 150’s Fission Fireball and it’s still beef. I think the weight issue comes to this: if you can get 165 to speed, it’s better for you than 172. If you can get 172 you may lose stability in lighter weights (disc technology and rim width adds more options with weight).
@benjaminwalther43879 ай бұрын
I disagree with your 'Busted' with flight numbers matter. The discs seemed to consistently prove the slight changes in numbers: the one speed faster disc didn't flip as much as the slower one, the one with more turn turned more and so on. Are flight numbers entirely correct? No. Do they matter? From your test: yes, absolutely!
@pjhutchison77239 ай бұрын
Not only that, but 7 speed discs aren't meant to be ripped like a 12 speed disc. If you throw them all at a slower speed their flight paths would've been even more similar.

The hyzer flip versus chop anny has to do a lot with how you grip the disc and your arm angle. If you throw the same arm angle and speed a hyzer flip will go further. Flip ups stay in the air. Watching Jake Wolff throw forehand he adjusts grip so he can throw different angles with the same arm slot.

I’m a beginner, been playing about 2 weeks and I can say definitively that I can throw farther with my mid ranges than I can with my distance drivers. What i like to think about with lighter discs, is that if it takes me 100% power to flip a max weight disc, I may be able to be more precise at 85% and still get around the same distance. I throw light discs unless it's windy, or It's already a really overstable disc

@callaway51488 ай бұрын
Flight numbers are useful when comparing discs within a single brand. Between brands, I would argue that they are useful for comparing the intended slot in the bag, but flights may vary. Regarding light weight discs, it could be that the lighter one is less stable because you can throw it faster. In other words, if you threw them with the same speed and spin, would they fly similar? Your lefty shots: you need to repeat with the putters. Or you should have gone putter, mid, driver, and repeat 3 times. The thing is that your form got a little better the more you threw lefty, so your putter shots were disadvantaged.

The heavy vs light disc decision is also heavily due to wind break for me. It's a lot harder to throw lightweight discs consistently in basically any wind from what I have seen (at least at my lower level of play).
@Taidaishar9 ай бұрын
Also, the lightweight is "flippier" because you can throw it faster than the heavier disc. So, imagine throwing the crank (a speed 13) at speed 12 and then throwing the lighter one at speed 14. They're definitely going to fly differently.
@AlanS_DGC8 ай бұрын
For the light weight comparison I wish you would have added in some overmolded technology from MVP/ Axiom. I know I have some super light stuff that I can not make flip to save my life.
@JBinUtah8 ай бұрын
I think the difference in the distance comes in the fairway speeds up to the distant driver speeds. If you have an 8 speed arm, the 12 speed disc won't go further than the 8 speed disc. I think that's the myth that should be tested. Not necessarily in the putter and midrange speeds because even newbies will have those speeds in them.

The max weight thing really came into effect when Hunter threw it all-out. He has 400ft+ power, Konner does not. Getting the disc "up to speed" is where the flight numbers tend to come in, and the weight can absolutely affect it. 12/13/14 speed discs are a LOT of disc, that tend to need 60+ mph arm speed to get flying as designed. I'd be curious to see them using slower speed discs, like 7-9 speed where Konner can get the disc up to speed and Hunter would be over-powering the disc at a full throw.

A DG pro once told me that the shock you feel in your hands and intense pain in the fingers, is from blood vessels stretching. I quit playing DG for a few years and came back to an intense pain on my first drives. Oh man my fingers and lower arm felt like a bolt of lightning hit me. I asked him and he explained it. Blood rushes down the arm and to the hand from the speed/force of a hard swing. I played thru the pain and luckily it eased up after about 9 holes. By the end of the round I was good to go. Seems like he was right. Once stretching those vessels a few times, they conditioned to it, and I havent had the problem since. Of course, I havent taken more than 3 mos off of DG at a time, since. Be a friend, call out 'shit shot!', mid flight.
