Larry was correct, the show did take a very different direction after the death of Bobby. The Ewings were not the Carringtons, they were ranchers who made a fortune in the oil business, and trying to make the show like Dynasty simply wasn't logical, not least as Dynasty had never managed to match the success of Dallas in the ratings.
